The Turtle's Tiny Telescope

The Turtle's Tiny Telescope

Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

In a cozy little pond surrounded by soft moss and tall reeds lives a small, round turtle with a smooth olive-brown shell and warm amber eyes. Every evening the turtle waddles to the water's edge to watch the stars twinkle both in the sky and in the pond's mirror-like surface. Around its neck hangs a tiny brass-rimmed telescope, a treasure found long ago that is too small to show the stars clearly, yet the turtle wears it always and dreams of studying the sky properly.

One clear night the stars in the pond turn blurry and smudged, and the turtle wishes for a bigger telescope. A bright lime-green frog with golden eyes hops by, carrying a woven twig satchel, and offers a different kind of help: together they can build a steady platform to stand on. Gathering sticks and smooth pebbles around the pond, the two work as a team, stacking stones into a strong base and tying sticks crosswise with soft grass. As they build, the frog shares facts about stars, and the turtle listens with growing wonder.

When the turtle climbs onto the finished platform, the stars shine sharp and clear above and below, and through the little brass telescope they are more beautiful still. The story shows young readers how asking for help and working with a friend can turn a small wish into something shared, and it gently introduces ideas about stars, patience and teamwork. It suits children who enjoy quiet animal tales and gentle lessons about friendship and curiosity.

The Turtle's Tiny Telescope - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Once upon a time, in a cozy little pond surrounded by soft moss and tall reeds, there lived a small, round turtle with a smooth olive-brown shell. Every evening, when the sky turned pink and purple, the turtle would waddle to the water's edge and gaze up at the stars. The pond was like a giant mirror, and the stars twinkled both above and below. The turtle loved how the stars seemed to dance in the water. It was the best part of the day. 1

The turtle had big, warm amber eyes that sparkled with curiosity. Around its neck hung a tiny brass-rimmed telescope on a thin cord, a special treasure found long ago. But the telescope was too small to see the stars clearly. Still, the turtle wore it always, hoping one day to study the sky properly. Each night, the turtle watched the stars and dreamed of seeing them up close. 2

One clear night, the turtle noticed something strange. The stars in the pond looked blurry and smudged, like someone had rubbed them with a soft cloth. The turtle blinked and squinted, but they stayed fuzzy. "Oh dear," the turtle sighed. "If only I had a bigger telescope, I could see the stars clearly." The turtle wished and wished, but nothing changed. The stars remained a fuzzy glow. 3

Just then, a bright lime-green frog hopped by, carrying a small woven twig satchel across its body. The frog's golden eyes twinkled. "Hello, friend! Why the long face?" asked the frog. The turtle explained about the blurry stars and the wish for a telescope. The frog smiled widely. "I can't make a telescope, but I can help you build a steady platform to stand on. Then you can study the sky and its reflection without wobbling." 4

The turtle's amber eyes grew wide. "A platform? That sounds wonderful!" The frog opened its satchel and showed the turtle a pile of straight sticks and smooth pebbles. "We'll need to find more," said the frog. "Let's gather sticks and stones together." The turtle nodded eagerly. They set off around the pond, the frog hopping and the turtle waddling, collecting materials for their project. 5

The frog was a clever builder. "We'll stack the stones first to make a strong base," it explained. The turtle watched as the frog carefully placed each stone, making sure they fit snugly. "Now we can add the sticks crosswise," said the frog. The turtle helped by holding the sticks steady while the frog tied them with soft grass. They worked together, and the platform began to take shape. 6

As they worked, the frog chatted about the stars. "Did you know that stars are made of hot, glowing gas?" asked the frog. The turtle listened, fascinated. "And some stars are bigger than our whole world!" The turtle's eyes grew round. "Really? That's amazing!" The frog grinned. "We can learn lots together." They continued building, sharing facts and giggles. 7

The platform grew taller and stronger. The frog showed the turtle how to balance the sticks just right. "Teamwork makes it steady," said the frog. The turtle felt happy to be helping. They placed the last stone and stepped back to admire their work. The platform was small but sturdy, perfect for a turtle to climb. "It's ready!" cheered the frog. 8

The turtle climbed onto the platform. It felt wonderfully steady under its tiny claws. The turtle looked up at the sky and then down at the pond. The stars were no longer blurry! They shone bright and clear, both above and below. "I can see them!" the turtle cried. "Every star is sharp and twinkly!" The frog hopped up beside the turtle, and they both gazed at the sparkling sky. 9

The turtle pulled out its tiny brass telescope and looked through it. "The stars are even more beautiful up close," it said. The frog pointed to a group of stars. "That's called the Big Dipper," said the frog. "It looks like a spoon!" The turtle laughed. "I see it! And there's a bright one over there." They took turns naming stars and making up stories about them. 10

The turtle turned to the frog. "Thank you for helping me," it said. "I couldn't have built this platform alone." The frog smiled. "That's what friends are for. And I learned a lot about stars from you, too!" The turtle realized that asking for help had made everything better. It wasn't just about the telescope; it was about sharing the wonder with a friend. The pond twinkled as if it agreed. 11

From that night on, the turtle and the frog met often at the pond. They would sit on the little platform and watch the stars together. The turtle shared facts about the moon, and the frog told stories about the constellations. They giggled and learned, and the pond reflected their joy. The turtle's curiosity grew, and so did their friendship. 12

The turtle learned that being curious and asking for help were both important. "I used to think I had to do everything alone," said the turtle. "But teamwork makes learning more fun!" The frog nodded. "And every question leads to a new discovery." They looked at the pond, where the stars seemed to shine even brighter, as if celebrating their teamwork. 13

One evening, the frog brought a small book about stars. "Let's learn more!" it said. They read together by the light of the moon. The turtle discovered new facts about galaxies and planets. The frog asked questions, and the turtle answered. They laughed when they got confused and cheered when they understood.
