A Chapter from the Book

The Rabbit's Secret Painting - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

In a cozy burrow under a big oak tree lived Rosie, a small cream rabbit with a red ribbon bow on one ear. She wore a sky-blue smock covered in paint splatters and always carried a thin paintbrush. Rosie loved to paint more than anything else in the whole wide world. Her big brown eyes sparkled whenever she dipped her brush into a fresh pot of color. 1

Rosie had a secret. Her paintings could move! When she painted a butterfly, its wings fluttered. When she painted a fish, its tail swished. But Rosie kept this magic to herself. She was a little shy and never showed her moving paintings to anyone. She just painted quietly in her burrow, smiling at her wonderful secret. 2

One sunny morning, Rosie painted a secret picture of a dancing frog, a leaping lizard, and a twirling mouse. They wore tiny hats and held balloons. As she painted, they began to wiggle and giggle. "Oh, how lovely!" Rosie whispered. She stepped back to admire her work, but then something surprising happened. The characters started to glow and shimmer. 3

Suddenly, with a pop and a squeak, the frog, lizard, and mouse jumped right off the paper! They ran out the burrow door, laughing and leaping. "Wait! Come back!" Rosie cried, but they were too quick. She stared at her painting. Now it was empty and plain. Rosie felt very sad. Her beautiful picture was not finished anymore. 4

Just then, Pip the yellow bird fluttered in through the window. He wore a tiny green beret and carried a small brush under his wing. "Why the long face, Rosie?" he chirped. Rosie pointed at the empty painting. "My characters ran away," she sniffled. "Now my picture is ruined." Pip tilted his head. "Don't worry! We can fix it together!" 5

Pip quickly flew to the paint pots. "I'll add some bright dabs!" he chirped, dipping his brush. He painted quick, colorful dots around the edges. Rosie smiled a little. "That's nice, Pip." But the middle was still empty. "We need more help," said Pip. "Let's call our friends!" He tweeted a loud, cheerful tweet. 6

Soon, Bramble the bear cub arrived. He was twice as tall as Rosie, with warm brown fur and a red polka-dot neckerchief. His yellow rain boots squelched as he walked. "I heard you need help," he said kindly. "I'm not very good at painting, but I can carry paints and reach high spots." Rosie felt a little happier. "Thank you, Bramble," she said. 7

Then, with a soft shimmer, Luna the star sprite floated in. She glowed lavender and left a trail of stardust. Her tiny silver crown twinkled. "I brought sparkle!" she said dreamily. She sprinkled stardust over the painting, and it began to shine. Rosie's eyes went wide. "It's beautiful!" she gasped. "Now let's finish the picture!" 8

Rosie picked up her brush. "I'll paint the frog again," she said. She painted a green frog with a big smile. Pip added yellow dots for spots. Bramble painted a blue pond with broad, careful strokes. Luna sprinkled stardust on the water so it sparkled. They all laughed as they worked. "This is fun!" said Bramble, trying not to splash. 9

Next, Rosie painted the lizard. She gave it a purple tail and orange stripes. Pip painted tiny balloons in its hands. Bramble painted a tall green plant for it to hide behind. Luna added a sprinkle of stardust on the leaves. "It looks alive!" cheered Pip. Rosie giggled. "Almost!" she said. They were all having a wonderful time. 10

Finally, Rosie painted the mouse. She gave it big round ears and a pink nose. Pip painted a tiny hat on its head. Bramble painted a big yellow sun in the corner. Luna sprinkled stardust all around. The painting was full of color and life. "It's almost done!" said Rosie. "Just a few more touches!" They all smiled at their work. 11

As they painted, something magical happened. The frog, lizard, and mouse peeked in through the window. They had felt the joy and wanted to return. Luna floated over and sprinkled stardust on them. "Come back, little friends," she whispered. The characters hopped back into the painting and settled into their places. The picture was complete again! 12

Rosie stepped back and looked at her painting. The frog, lizard, and mouse were back, and now they looked even happier. The pond sparkled, the sun shone, and the balloons floated. "We did it!" Rosie cried. "Together!" said Pip. Bramble nodded. "It's the best painting ever!" Luna twinkled. They all smiled at the beautiful, lively picture. 13

Rosie felt a warm glow in her heart. She had been sad when her characters ran away, but her friends had helped her finish the painting. And she had learned something important. "Sharing my creativity with you all brings me the greatest joy," she said. "Thank you for helping me." Her friends cheered, and they all hugged in a big, happy group. 14

From that day on, Rosie never kept her moving paintings a secret. She invited her friends to paint with her every day. They painted dancing frogs, flying lizards, and singing mice. And each time, they laughed and worked together. Rosie's burrow became a happy place full of color, friendship, and joy. And her paintings always came to life with the magic of sharing.
