The Rabbit's Friendship Tree

The Rabbit's Friendship Tree

Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

In a cozy corner of the woods, where wildflowers dance in the breeze, lives Rosie the rabbit. With her soft cream fur, sky-blue gardening apron and tiny wooden trowel, Rosie tends her little garden every morning and loves watching things grow. One sunny day she has a wonderful idea: she will plant a special tree to celebrate her friends, a friendship tree where they can all gather and share happy times.

As Rosie places the sapling in the soil, her friends arrive one by one to help. Hazel the squirrel scatters seeds and acorns around it, Bramble the bear waters it faithfully with his metal can, and Pip the bird sings a sweet song from a nearby branch. Through spring and summer the tree grows taller, offering shade for games and stories. When a strong wind threatens to bend the young tree, the friends steady it together, each contributing in their own way.

This gentle children's tale follows the changing seasons and the small acts of care that make a friendship, and a tree, grow strong. Young readers learn about cooperation, patience and the rewards of tending something together, while the story's warm animal characters show that every friend has something valuable to give. It is suited to young children being read to at bedtime and to early readers beginning to explore stories on their own.

The Rabbit's Friendship Tree - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

In a cozy corner of the woods, where wildflowers danced in the breeze, lived Rosie the rabbit. She had soft cream fur, long ears with pink inside, and a sky-blue gardening apron with a front pocket. Every morning, Rosie tended her little garden with her tiny wooden trowel, humming a happy tune. She loved watching things grow, but most of all, she loved her friends. 1

One sunny morning, Rosie had a wonderful idea. 'I will plant a special tree to celebrate my friends!' she said, her round dark eyes sparkling. She put on her straw sun hat with the yellow ribbon and picked up her trowel. 'A friendship tree,' she whispered, 'where we can all gather and share happy times.' 2

Rosie chose a sunny spot in the middle of her garden. She dug a small hole and gently placed a little sapling inside. 'This tree will grow as our friendship grows,' she said. Just then, Hazel the squirrel scampered down the path, her bushy reddishbrown tail bouncing. 'What are you doing, Rosie?' she asked, her bright hazel eyes wide with curiosity. 3

'I'm planting a friendship tree!' Rosie announced. Hazel's tufted ears perked up. 'How exciting! I can help!' She opened her small brown satchel and pulled out a handful of seeds and acorns. 'I'll scatter these around the tree so it has friends too,' she said, and she did just that, her green knitted vest bouncing as she worked. 4

Soon Bramble the bear arrived, his big round belly swaying. He wore his red neckerchief and carried a large metal watering can. 'A tree needs water,' he said in his calm, gentle voice. He put on his worn leather gloves and carefully watered the little sapling. 'There,' he smiled, 'that will help it grow strong.' Rosie felt warm inside. Her friends were already helping. 5

Then Pip the bird fluttered down from the sky, his blue and yellow feathers shining in the sun. He wore a tiny red scarf around his neck. 'I'll sing to the tree,' he chirped, and he perched on a nearby branch and sang a sweet, cheerful song. The little tree seemed to stand a little taller. Rosie clapped her paws. 'Thank you, Pip! Your song is lovely.' 6

Day after day, the friends cared for the tree. Hazel scattered more seeds, Bramble watered it faithfully, and Pip sang every morning. Rosie pulled tiny weeds and whispered kind words to the sapling. 'Grow big and strong,' she said. 'We'll make so many memories together.' The little tree listened, and its leaves turned toward the sun. 7

Spring turned to summer, and the tree grew taller. Its branches spread wide, offering cool shade. The friends gathered under it to play hide-and-seek and tell stories. Pip sang from the branches, Hazel chased her tail, and Bramble told gentle bear tales. Rosie looked around and smiled. 'Our friendship tree is growing,' she said, 'just like our friendship.' 8

One day, a strong wind blew through the garden. The little tree swayed and bent. Rosie worried. 'Will it be okay?' she asked. Bramble wrapped his big arms around the trunk to steady it. Hazel brought extra seeds to plant around the roots. Pip sang a brave, loud song. Together, they protected their tree. 9

When the wind died down, the tree stood straight and strong. 'We did it!' cheered Hazel. 'Because we worked together,' said Bramble. Rosie hugged each of her friends. 'The tree needs all of us,' she said. 'Just like I need all of you.' They sat under the branches, tired but happy, sharing acorns and berries. 10

Autumn came, and the tree's leaves turned gold and red. The friends gathered fallen leaves and made a big pile to jump in. 'This is my favorite season!' said Hazel, tossing leaves with her bushy tail. Pip sang a song about changing colors. Bramble carved a tiny wooden sign that read 'Friendship Tree.' Rosie placed it proudly at the base. 11

One chilly evening, Rosie sat alone under the tree, thinking about all the happy times. She realized that the tree had grown because everyone had cared for it. 'Friendships are like trees,' she said softly. 'They grow through attention and care.' She decided to plant a few more seeds around the garden so other creatures could enjoy it too. 12

The next morning, Rosie invited all her friends to help plant new seeds. They worked together, laughing and talking. 'Soon there will be flowers everywhere!' said Hazel. 'And more shade for naps,' said Bramble. Pip flew from branch to branch, singing a song of thanks. The garden was becoming a special place where everyone felt welcome. 13

As winter arrived, the tree stood bare but strong. The friends decorated it with berries and pinecones. 'It's still beautiful,' said Rosie. They gathered under the branches, wrapped in warm scarves, and shared stories of the year. The tree seemed to listen, its roots deep in the earth, holding the memories of spring, summer, and fall. 14

When spring returned, the tree burst into blossom. Pink and white flowers covered every branch. 'It's magnificent!' gasped Hazel. 'The best tree ever,' said Bramble. Pip sang a joyous melody. Rosie looked at her friends and the tree. 'We made this together,' she said. 'And we'll make many more memories under its branches.' 15

And so, the friendship tree grew tall and strong, a symbol of love and care. Rosie learned that friendships, like trees, need attention and care to flourish. The garden became a gathering place for all the woodland animals, where laughter echoed and hearts were full. Under the friendship tree, everyone felt welcome and loved.
