Deep in the green rainforest lives Milo, a young monkey with warm brown fur, amber eyes and a necklace of woven green leaves. One bright day he finds a small round mirror under a fern, and when he smiles the glass sparkles, and when he blinks it glows warm as honey. Milo tucks the magic mirror into his necklace and sets out to share it with his friends.
The first to look is Pippa the parrot, who is too shy to sing like the other birds. In the mirror she sees herself singing with a puffed yellow chest and golden notes floating around her, and she finds the courage to try one clear note. Next comes Tuck the turtle, who believes he is too slow to move a fallen log, until the mirror shows him drawing lines and solving puzzles and he realises his slowness gives him time to think. Word spreads through the rainforest, and a frog and a beetle and others each look into the glass and discover something they already carried inside them. When the mirror slips into the stream, the friends must decide whether their talents depended on it at all.
This gentle fairy tale is written for young children and for the adults who read aloud to them. Through Milo's kindness and Tuck's quiet wisdom it shows that everyone has a special talent, even when it hides at first, and that a friend who cheers for you can help it shine.

The Monkey's Magic Mirror - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK
Deep in the green rainforest, where the leaves dripped with morning rain, lived a young monkey named Milo. His fur was warm brown, his face and belly soft tan, and his amber eyes were always wide with wonder. He wore a necklace of woven green leaves, and in the middle hung a tiny polished mirror. Milo loved to explore, but most of all, he loved his rainforest friends. 1
One bright day, Milo swung from vine to vine, his long curly tail curling behind him like a question mark. He landed beside a quiet stream and spotted something shiny under a fern. It was a little round mirror, smooth and bright, with a wooden handle carved like a tiny leaf. When Milo looked in, he saw his own face and gasped. 2
But this was no ordinary mirror. When Milo smiled, the mirror sparkled. When he blinked, the glass glowed warm as honey. "This is a magic mirror!" he whispered, and his small tuft of fur stood straight up. He tucked it into his leaf necklace and hurried off to find his friends. "Wait until they see this!" he chirped. 3
The first friend Milo found was Pippa the parrot, hiding behind a big red flower. Her red and blue feathers were ruffled, and her wings were tucked in tight. "I can't sing like the other birds," she sighed. "I'm too shy." Milo held up the mirror gently. "Just look," he said. "You might be surprised." 4
Pippa peeked into the glass, and her dark round eyes grew wide. In the mirror, she saw herself singing, her yellow chest puffed with joy, and little golden notes floating all around her. "Is that me?" she whispered. "I can sing?" Milo nodded. "Try it," he said softly. Pippa opened her small curved beak and sang one clear, sweet note. 5
Next, Milo found Tuck the turtle by a fallen log, pushing it with all his might. His mossy shell was dusty, and his round spectacles sat crooked on his nose. "This log is stuck," Tuck said slowly, "and I'm too slow to move it. I wish I could help." Milo smiled and held up the mirror. "Take a look, Tuck." 6
Tuck peered through his spectacles at the magic mirror. There he saw himself, calm and thoughtful, drawing lines in the dirt and solving a tricky puzzle with a gentle smile. "Why," Tuck said, blinking, "I do like to figure things out." He studied the fallen log, then pointed. "If we roll it that way, downhill, it will move easily." 7
Milo and Tuck rolled the log together, and it slid down the slope with a happy thump. "You solved it!" Milo cheered. Tuck's wise smile grew wide. "I suppose I did," he said. "Being slow means I have time to think." Pippa flew over, humming a tune, and the three friends laughed under the ferns while the mirror glowed softly in Milo's leaf necklace. 8
Word spread through the rainforest, and soon the friends came one by one. A little frog looked in and discovered she could jump higher than anyone. A bright beetle saw that he could find hidden paths in the dark. Each friend gasped, then giggled, then tried something new. Milo held the mirror steady and cheered for every one of them. 9
But then the mirror slipped from Milo's necklace and fell into the stream! It spun in the water and sank below a swirl of bubbles. "Oh no!" Milo cried, his curly tail drooping. The friends gathered around, peering into the water. "We can't see our talents without it!" Pippa said, her wings trembling. 10
Tuck stepped forward slowly. "Wait," he said. "We don't need the mirror to know our talents. The mirror only showed us what was already there." The friends looked at one another. Pippa sang a soft, brave note. The frog jumped high over a leaf. The beetle found a path through the ferns. "Tuck is right!" Milo said, his amber eyes shining. 11
Milo dove into the stream, and his agile fingers found the mirror among the smooth stones. He climbed out, dripping and grinning, and held it up. "We found it," he said, "but we found something better too. We found our strengths." Pippa sang louder, and the whole rainforest seemed to listen and sway. 12
That evening, the rainforest friends gathered in a circle beneath the tall trees. Pippa sang a beautiful song while Tuck solved a puzzle of twigs, and everyone clapped and cheered. Milo looked at his leaf necklace and smiled. "The mirror is magic," he said, "but kindness is what made it shine." 13
The friends nodded, warm and proud. They understood now that everyone has a special talent, even if it hides at first. Pippa's song helped the shy frog find her voice. Tuck's clever thinking helped the beetle find his way home. And Milo's kindness helped them all see it. 14
So the rainforest friends learned a gentle lesson that day. Every creature has strengths, sometimes tucked away like a seed under the leaves. A little kindness, a curious heart, and a magic mirror can help those strengths grow tall. And when friends cheer for one another, everyone shines bright and happy. 15
And if you ever wander through that green rainforest, listen close. You might hear Pippa singing, Tuck humming as he thinks, and Milo giggling with his curly tail high. They will tell you the secret of the mirror: look for the good in your friends, and you will always find it. Everyone has talents. Kindness helps them shine.
