The Mole's Miniature Circus

Deep beneath a garden, where roots twist like ribbons, a mole in a red ringmaster jacket builds a miniature circus for every small creature. He digs a round room with a grassy stage and pebble seats, then sends invitations on flower petals. Ladybird cheerfully hands out tickets, Snail arrives in his round spectacles and takes a seat, and the show begins with Ladybird's looping flight and a cricket's sweet fiddle music. Watching from a shadowy corner is a shy beetle in a leaf scarf, convinced he has no talent at all.

When the mole calls for volunteers, the beetle shrinks back, certain he will make a mistake. During intermission he slips outside and absentmindedly rolls a smooth acorn cap between his legs; it spins perfectly, and he discovers a skill he never knew he had. With encouragement from Ladybird, who insists he show everyone, he steps onto the stage, trembling, and turns his acorn-cap trick into a dazzling dance that leaves the audience gasping and applauding.

The story follows the beetle from hiding in the shadows to becoming the circus's most popular act, and eventually teaching other shy bugs to try. It gently shows young readers that everyone has something special, that courage often starts small, and that a gift shared can change how a person sees themselves. The gentle animal characters and simple underground setting make it well suited to children beginning to read on their own or listening at bedtime.

The Mole's Miniature Circus - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Deep under the garden, where roots twist like ribbons, a mole in a red ringmaster jacket bustled about. He had soft dark fur and big shovel paws, perfect for digging. 'A circus!' he squeaked, adjusting his tiny top hat. 'A miniature circus for every small creature!' He dug a round room with a grassy stage and seats made of pebbles. 1

The mole sent invitations on flower petals. Ladybird, cheerful in her red spotted shell, helped hand out tickets. 'Welcome, welcome!' she chirped, a yellow flower tucked behind her head. Snail, wearing round spectacles, slowly took his seat. 'How delightful,' he murmured. The beetle watched from a dark corner, his blue-green shell shimmering faintly. 2

The beetle was very shy. He wore a leaf scarf and kept to the shadows, his amber eyes wide. 'I have no talent,' he whispered to himself. 'I'm just small and quiet.' He longed to join the fun but his legs felt like stone. The mole noticed him and smiled kindly. 'Everyone has a gift,' he said, but the beetle wasn't so sure. 3

The circus began with a flutter. Ladybird flew loops in the air, her translucent wings catching the light. 'Bravo!' cheered the audience. Snail clapped his eyestalks slowly. The beetle watched from his corner, wishing he could be brave. 'Maybe I could juggle,' he thought, but his legs trembled. 'Or dance?' But he stayed hidden, his leaf scarf drooping. 4

Next, a cricket played a tiny fiddle. The music was sweet and merry. The beetle tapped his feet, but when the mole asked for volunteers, he shrank back. 'I can't,' he squeaked. 'I'll make a mistake.' Ladybird flew over and gave him a warm smile. 'Everyone starts somewhere,' she said. The beetle sighed and looked at the ground. 5

The mole announced a intermission. 'Stretch your legs!' he called. The beetle slipped outside for fresh air. He found a smooth acorn cap and absentmindedly rolled it between his legs. It spun perfectly! He tried again, faster. The acorn cap whirled like a top. 'Oh!' he gasped. 'I can do this!' But would anyone want to see? 6

Back inside, the beetle practiced in a quiet corner. He rolled the acorn cap up his legs, around his shell, and down again. It was like a dance! His shiny shell sparkled as he moved. Ladybird spotted him. 'That's wonderful!' she exclaimed. 'You must show everyone!' The beetle blushed. 'No, no, I'm too shy.' But Ladybird insisted. 7

The mole called for the final act. 'Who will surprise us?' he asked. The beetle's heart pounded. Ladybird gave him a gentle push. 'Go on,' she whispered. Slowly, the beetle stepped onto the stage. His legs shook, but he held up the acorn cap. The audience went quiet. Snail adjusted his spectacles. The beetle took a deep breath. 8

Then the beetle began to move. He rolled the acorn cap up one leg, then the other. He spun it on his head, then caught it on his back. His blue-green shell flashed like a jewel. Faster and faster he went, the cap a blur of brown. The audience gasped. 'Oh my!' cried Snail. 'How marvelous!' The beetle forgot his shyness and danced with joy. 9

The beetle finished with a flourish, the acorn cap balanced on his nose. For a moment, there was silence. Then the mole clapped his big paws. 'Bravo!' he shouted. Ladybird cheered loudly. Snail applauded slowly, his wrinkled eyes twinkling. 'A true talent!' he said. The beetle smiled, his leaf scarf fluttering. He had done it! 10

The mole rushed over. 'You were amazing!' he said, his pink muzzle twitching with delight. 'I knew you had a gift!' Ladybird flew around the beetle, sprinkling tiny flower petals. 'Our star!' she sang. The beetle's amber eyes shone. 'Thank you,' he whispered. 'I didn't know I could.' The audience cheered again, and the beetle felt warm inside. 11

The beetle became the circus's most popular act. Every show, he rolled and spun, and the audience loved him. But more than that, he learned to smile and wave. 'I was so shy,' he told Ladybird. 'But now I know everyone has something special.' She nodded. 'Even if it takes a little courage to share it.' The mole beamed with pride. 12

The circus continued, a happy secret under the ground. The beetle no longer hid in corners. He practiced new tricks with the acorn cap. Sometimes he taught other shy bugs to spin and roll. 'You can do it,' he'd say. 'I was scared too.' Snail often came to watch, his spectacles glinting. 'A wise beetle,' he'd say, 'who found his gift.' 13

At the end of each show, the mole gathered everyone. 'What did we learn today?' he'd ask. The beetle raised his antennae. 'That everyone has a special talent,' he said. 'And it's okay to be shy. Just take a deep breath and try.' The mole nodded. 'That's right! And we cheer for each other.' The audience clapped, and the beetle felt proud. 14

One evening, a new bug crept in shyly. The beetle saw him hiding in a corner. He walked over and smiled. 'Don't worry,' he said. 'I was shy once too. Would you like to see a trick?' The little bug's eyes widened. The beetle rolled his acorn cap and the bug giggled. 'You can join us,' the beetle said.
