🎧 Listen to the Story · 7:03

Little Starfish lives in a bright blue ocean full of soft sand and gentle waves. With five plump arms and a coral-orange body covered in tiny peach spots, she spends her days exploring the reef and collecting treasures in her green seaweed satchel. One sunny morning, while digging near a cluster of pink coral, she discovers a folded piece of old, salty paper—a map covered in strange, squiggly symbols she cannot read.

Determined to understand the map, Little Starfish seeks help from her friend Hermit Crab, a clever and patient creature who wears a striped spiral shell and round blue glasses. Hermit Crab teaches her that the symbols are clues: a circle with three dots means a big rock, a wavy line shows deeper water, and a spiral means turn around. Together, they follow the map past tall sea grass and over sandy hills, solving puzzles and learning to read the symbols as a team. Along the way, they meet a friendly sea turtle who gives them a final clue about sparkling bubbles that lead to a secret grotto.

This heartwarming story shows young readers the value of curiosity, friendship, and teamwork. As Little Starfish and Hermit Crab combine their strengths—her enthusiasm and his puzzle-solving skills—they discover that challenges become easier when shared. The book is perfect for children aged 4 to 8, who will delight in the colorful underwater setting and the gentle lessons about cooperation and perseverance.

The Little Starfish's Map Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Little Starfish lived in a bright blue ocean full of soft sand and gentle waves. She had five plump arms and a coral-orange body covered in tiny peach spots. Every day she explored the reef, looking for treasures. She carried a small green seaweed satchel wherever she went. 'The ocean is full of surprises,' she said happily. 'I want to find them all!' 1

One sunny morning, Little Starfish was digging in the sand near a cluster of pink coral. Her arm bumped something hard and flat. She brushed away the sand and found a folded piece of old, salty paper. 'What's this?' she wondered, unfolding it carefully. It was a map! But the symbols on it were strange and squiggly. She had never seen anything like them before. 2

Little Starfish stared at the map, her big dark eyes wide with curiosity. There were circles, dots, and wavy lines that looked like tiny waves. 'I wish I could understand this,' she sighed. She tucked the map into her green satchel and decided to ask her friend Hermit Crab. He was clever and patient, and he loved puzzles. 'He'll know what to do,' she said. 3

Hermit Crab lived in a cozy tide pool under a rocky ledge. He wore a striped spiral shell on his back and round blue glasses for reading. When Little Starfish showed him the map, his amber eyes sparkled. 'Oh, how exciting!' he said, adjusting his glasses. 'Let's look closely at these symbols. I think they might be clues.' He waved his small claws eagerly. 4

'This circle with three dots means a big rock,' Hermit Crab explained, tracing the marks with one claw. 'And this wavy line shows where the water gets deeper.' Little Starfish listened carefully, her five arms wiggling with excitement. 'You can read it!' she cheered. 'Will you teach me?' Hermit Crab nodded kindly. 'Of course! Teamwork makes everything easier,' he said. 5

Together they studied the map. Hermit Crab pointed to a starshaped symbol. 'That's a special place,' he said. 'Maybe a secret spot in the ocean!' Little Starfish's heart raced with joy. 'Let's follow the clues!' she cried. They packed a tiny snack of seaweed and started their journey. The map led them past tall sea grass and over small sandy hills. 6

As they traveled, Little Starfish tried to read the symbols herself. 'Is this one a shell?' she asked, pointing to a swirl. 'Almost!' Hermit Crab said with a smile. 'It's a spiral, like my shell. It means turn around.' They laughed together. Learning was fun when you had a friend to help. The ocean sparkled around them like a thousand tiny diamonds. 7

Soon they reached a place where the water was deep and cool. The map showed a big X near a cluster of purple rocks. 'We're close!' Hermit Crab said. But then the path split in two. Which way should they go? Little Starfish felt a little worried. 'Let's look at the map again,' she said. 'We can figure this out together.' 8

They sat on a smooth pebble and studied the map. Hermit Crab tapped his glasses. 'See this little arrow? It points left, toward the purple rocks.' Little Starfish clapped her five arms. 'You're right! I would have missed that.' They chose the left path, feeling proud of their teamwork. The adventure felt even more exciting now that they were solving problems together. 9

As they swam on, they met a friendly sea turtle. 'Have you seen a secret spot?' Little Starfish asked. The turtle smiled. 'Follow the bubbles that sparkle like stars,' she said. 'That's the way to the secret grotto.' Little Starfish and Hermit Crab thanked her and looked at the map. 'Sparkling bubbles!' they said together. 'That's the last clue!' 10

They followed the trail of sparkling bubbles until they reached a hidden grotto. It was filled with glowing sea anemones and shimmering shells. 'Wow!' Little Starfish gasped. 'It's beautiful!' Hermit Crab nodded, his amber eyes wide. 'We couldn't have found it without your map and our teamwork,' he said. Little Starfish smiled. 'And I couldn't have read it without you!' 11

Inside the grotto, they found a smooth rock covered in tiny starfish shapes. 'Look!' Little Starfish cried. 'It's a starfish gathering place!' She felt proud and happy. Hermit Crab took off his glasses and cleaned them. 'You know,' he said, 'the best part of this adventure was sharing it with you.' They sat together, watching the glowing anemones sway in the gentle water. 12

Little Starfish opened her satchel and carefully placed the map inside. 'I'll keep this map forever,' she said. 'It will remind me of our adventure.' Hermit Crab smiled. 'And I'll keep my glasses,' he said, 'for our next puzzle.' They promised to explore more of the ocean together. 'There are so many surprises left to find!' Little Starfish said cheerfully. 13

On the way home, Little Starfish thought about everything they had learned. 'Reading the map was hard at first,' she said. 'But with your help, it became easy.' Hermit Crab nodded. 'That's what friends do,' he said. 'We share ideas and make each other braver.' Little Starfish felt warm inside. She knew she would never forget this day. 14

When they reached the tide pool, the sun was setting over the ocean. 'Thank you for helping me,' Little Starfish said. 'Any time,' Hermit Crab replied. 'Teamwork made our adventure wonderful.' They waved goodbye, and Little Starfish swam home with a happy heart. She couldn't wait to explore again. The ocean was full of wonderful surprises, and she had the best friend to share them with.
