Deep underground, in a cozy but very dark burrow, lives a little mole with velvety brown fur, a pink nose, and tiny black eyes. He wears small blue overalls and often wishes for a bit of light. His dear friend, a shiny red beetle with black spots and a tiny green scarf, lives at the end of a long, winding tunnel. The mole misses his friend terribly but the tunnel is pitch-black, and he is afraid of bumping into things or getting lost.

Determined to solve the problem, the inventive mole searches his home and finds a tiny brass lantern. With a shiny button, a scrap of wire, and a glowing mushroom from the deep forest, he builds a little lamp. When a warm yellow light flickers to life, he cheers—now he can see in the dark tunnel. The next morning, he tucks the lantern into his pocket and sets off. Along the way, the light reveals dangling roots, stones, and friendly creatures like a wiggly worm and a family of ants. When the tunnel forks, the lantern helps him spot tiny beetle footprints and choose the right path.

Finally, the mole reaches the beetle's chamber, and the two friends reunite joyfully. The beetle had also been worried about the dark tunnel, and the mole's invention allows them to visit each other often. Together, they play and explore, and the mole learns that inventions should solve problems and can bring friends closer. This heartwarming story teaches children about ingenuity, bravery, and the value of friendship.

The Little Mole's Lantern - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Deep underground, where the earth is cool and soft, lived a little mole. He had velvety dark brown fur, a pink nose, and tiny black bead eyes. He wore small blue overalls with a front pocket. His home was a cozy burrow, but it was very, very dark. The little mole often wished for a bit of light. 1

The little mole had a dear friend, a shiny red beetle with black spots and a tiny green scarf. The beetle lived at the end of a long, winding tunnel. The mole missed his friend very much. He wanted to visit, but the tunnel was pitch-black. "It's too dark to go," he sighed. "I might bump into things or get lost." 2

The little mole sat in his burrow and thought and thought. He was curious and inventive. "I need to make some light," he said. He remembered seeing a tiny brass lantern in a forgotten corner. He found it and polished it until it shone. But it had no light inside. The mole decided to build a little lamp for it. 3

The mole gathered bits and pieces: a shiny button, a scrap of wire, and a tiny glowing mushroom from the deep forest. He carefully fitted them together. With a click, a warm yellow light flickered to life. "A lantern!" he cheered. His pink nose twitched with excitement. Now he could see in the dark tunnel. 4

The next morning, the little mole put on his blue overalls and tucked the lantern into his pocket. He set off into the tunnel. The lantern cast a warm glow, showing every bump and turn. The mole walked carefully, his short pink claws tapping on the earth. He felt brave and determined. The light made the dark less scary. 5

As he walked, the mole saw roots dangling from the ceiling and stones on the ground. The lantern light danced on the walls. He stepped over a wiggly worm and waved hello. The tunnel was long, but the mole was not afraid. He knew his beetle friend was waiting at the other end. The light guided him safely. 6

Suddenly, the tunnel forked. Two paths lay ahead, both dark. The mole did not know which way to go. He held up his lantern and peered closely. On the left path, he saw tiny beetle footprints in the soft earth. "This way!" he said happily. The lantern helped him choose the right path. 7

The mole continued on, humming a little tune. The lantern light made shadows dance like friendly shapes. He saw a family of ants marching home and a sleepy caterpillar. They all waved as he passed. The mole felt proud of his invention. It not only lit his way but also made the journey fun. He was getting closer. 8

Finally, the tunnel opened into a small chamber. There, waiting patiently, was the beetle friend. His shiny red shell with black spots gleamed in the lantern light. He wore his tiny green scarf. "You came!" the beetle cried, his big friendly eyes sparkling. "And you brought light!" The mole smiled and hugged his friend. 9

The beetle had been worried about the dark tunnel too. "I wanted to visit you, but it's so dark and dangerous," he said. The mole showed him the lantern. "I made it to solve the problem," he explained. The beetle was amazed. "You are so clever!" he said. "Now we can see each other whenever we want." 10

The two friends sat together, sharing the warm glow of the lantern. They talked and laughed, and the little chamber felt cozy and bright. The beetle suggested they play a game. "Let's see who can find the most interesting pebble," he said. They searched the tunnel floor, the lantern lighting their way. 11

They found shiny stones, a lost marble, and a tiny golden key. Each treasure looked magical in the lantern light. The mole and the beetle took turns holding the lantern. "Your invention is wonderful," said the beetle. "It brings us together." The mole beamed. He was happy that his idea helped his friend and made their playtime possible. 12

As they played, the mole realized something important. "Inventions should solve problems," he said thoughtfully. "And they can bring friends closer." The beetle nodded. "You solved the problem of the dark tunnel," he said. "Now we can share adventures." They decided to keep the lantern in a special spot for their future visits. 13

From that day on, the little mole and the beetle visited each other often. The lantern hung in the tunnel, a warm beacon for both of them. The mole even made a tiny lantern for the beetle to carry. The beetle wore it proudly around his neck, next to his green scarf. The tunnel was no longer a scary place. 14

The mole learned that a good invention can change everything. It can turn a dark, dangerous path into a safe and happy journey. And it can bring friends closer together. The little mole felt proud of his lantern. He knew that with a little creativity and determination, any problem could be solved. And sharing the solution made it even better. 15

So the little mole and his beetle friend played and explored, their lanterns glowing bright. The tunnel was filled with laughter and light. And whenever the mole saw a dark place, he didn't feel afraid. He knew he could find a way to light it up. And he always remembered that friendship and a good idea can brighten even the darkest corner.
