The Little Fox's Promise

The Little Fox's Promise

Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Felix is a little fox with bright rust-orange fur and a fluffy white-tipped tail, who lives in a cozy den beneath an old oak tree and loves to explore the woods. One day he discovers a hidden garden tucked behind a wall of ferns, full of winding paths, tiny bridges, and flowers of every color, watched over by a gentle old oak. There a wise owl tells him the garden needs someone to care for it, and Felix makes a promise to protect it, keeping the paths clear and the flowers safe.

For a while Felix keeps his word happily, pulling weeds and sweeping the paths with his tail. Then a wild storm shakes the woods, and the next morning he finds the garden battered: branches down, paths washed away, bridges broken, flowers bent and muddy. His small paws cannot lift the heavy branches alone, and he learns that asking for help is not breaking a promise but finding a way to keep it. Bramble the badger, with his tools, and Poppy the rabbit, with her pocket of seeds, come to the garden gate and work alongside him through the day, clearing, mending, and planting.

The story follows the three friends as they rebuild the garden and wait for the seeds to grow, and it shows young readers that a promise is a precious thing that takes effort, patience, and the help of friends to keep. It is a gentle tale for children being read to at bedtime or reading on their own, with simple language, warm animal characters, and a clear lesson about responsibility and teamwork.

The Little Fox's Promise - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

In a cozy den under an old oak tree lived Felix, a little fox with bright rust-orange fur and a fluffy white-tipped tail. Every morning he wore his green neckerchief with the tiny leaf pattern. He loved to explore the woods around his home. One day, he found a hidden garden tucked behind a wall of ferns. It was the most magical place he had ever seen. 1

The garden was full of winding paths, tiny bridges, and flowers of every color. A gentle old oak tree stood in the middle, its branches whispering in the breeze. Felix's amber eyes grew wide with wonder. He scampered along the paths and sniffed the sweet blossoms. 'I wish I could stay here forever,' he said softly. 2

As Felix rested by the oak, a wise old owl swooped down. 'This garden is special,' she said. 'It needs someone to care for it.' Felix sat up straight. 'I will protect it!' he promised. 'I will keep the paths clear and the flowers safe.' The owl nodded. 'A promise is a precious thing,' she said. 'Keep it well.' 3

Felix visited the garden every day. He pulled tiny weeds and swept the paths with his fluffy tail. He felt proud and happy. But one night, dark clouds rolled in, and a wild storm shook the woods. Rain poured down and wind howled through the trees. Felix curled up in his den and listened to the thunder rumble. 4

In the morning, Felix hurried to the garden. His heart sank. The storm had knocked down branches and washed away the paths. Little bridges were broken, and flowers were bent and muddy. Felix's ears drooped. 'Oh no,' he whispered. 'I promised to protect this place. What will I do?' His amber eyes filled with worry. 5

Felix sat on a wet stone and thought about his promise. He wanted to fix everything himself, but the job was too big. His small paws could not lift the heavy branches. 'I need help,' he said bravely. 'Asking for help is not breaking a promise. It is finding a way to keep it.' So he set off to find his friends. 6

First, Felix found Bramble the badger. Bramble had a striped face and warm brown eyes. He carried a brown canvas satchel and wore a short red scarf. 'Bramble,' said Felix, 'the garden is damaged. Will you help me repair it?' Bramble smiled kindly. 'Of course, little friend,' he said. 'Let me bring my tools.' 7

Next, Felix found Poppy the rabbit. Poppy had soft cream fur and long ears with pink inner lining. She wore a blue apron with a pocket full of seeds. 'Poppy,' said Felix, 'the garden needs us. Can you help?' Poppy's round eyes sparkled. 'I would love to!' she said. 'I will bring seeds to replant the flowers.' 8

The three friends met at the garden gate. Bramble looked at the muddy paths and the broken bridges. 'We can fix this,' he said calmly. 'First, we clear the branches. Then we mend the paths and plant new seeds.' Poppy nodded. 'And we will work together!' she cheered. Felix felt a warm hope in his chest. 9

Bramble dug his strong paws into the mud and lifted the heavy branches. Felix carried small twigs and stones to fill the holes. Poppy gathered fallen seeds and tucked them into her apron pocket. They worked all morning, and slowly the garden began to look better. 'You are doing great, Felix!' said Poppy with a bright smile. 10

By afternoon, the paths were still muddy, and the bridges were still broken. Felix began to feel tired. 'This is hard work,' he sighed. 'My paws are sore.' Bramble put a gentle paw on Felix's shoulder. 'Keeping a promise takes effort,' he said. 'But we are not alone. That makes every job easier.' 11

Poppy hopped over with a handful of seeds. 'Look!' she said. 'I found these under the old oak. They are flower seeds. Let us plant them along the path.' Felix's ears perked up. 'That is a wonderful idea!' he said. They dug little holes and placed the seeds inside, covering them gently with soil. 12

As the sun began to set, the three friends stood back to admire their work. The paths were smooth again, and the bridges were mended with strong twigs. Bramble wiped his brow. 'We did it,' he said proudly. Felix looked at his friends and felt a warm glow. 'Thank you,' he said. 'I could not have kept my promise without you.' 13

Days passed, and the garden rested. Felix visited every day to water the seeds and check the paths. Then one morning, tiny green shoots poked through the soil. Felix gasped with joy. 'They are growing!' he called to his friends. Bramble and Poppy hurried over to see. The garden was coming back to life. 14

When spring arrived, the garden burst into bloom. Flowers of every color danced in the breeze, and the paths were bright and clean. The old oak tree rustled its leaves happily. Felix, Bramble, and Poppy sat together under its branches. 'You kept your promise, Felix,' said Poppy. 'And we helped!' added Bramble with a grin. 15

Felix looked around the beautiful garden and smiled. 'I learned something important,' he said. 'Keeping a promise takes effort, but helping hands make every job easier.' The owl swooped down and nodded wisely. 'Well done, little fox,' she said. And from that day on, Felix knew that friendship and hard work could make any promise come true.
