The Hedgehog's Star Garden - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

In a cozy corner of the woods, a little hedgehog named Huffle lived in a burrow under a big oak tree. He was small and round, about the size of a large apple, with soft light brown spines tipped with cream. His warm tan face and big dark brown eyes made him look kind and shy. He loved to work in his garden, wearing a moss green apron with seed packets in the pocket. 1

One evening, Huffle found a tiny packet of seeds in his apron pocket. The label said: 'Glowing Seeds – plant with care.' He had never seen seeds like these before. They sparkled faintly in the moonlight. 'I wonder what will happen if I plant them?' he thought. So he dug small holes and placed each seed gently into the soft earth. 2

Every night, Huffle watered the seeds and whispered, 'Grow strong, little seeds.' The stars twinkled above, and a gentle breeze blew. But days passed, and nothing happened. The soil stayed dark and quiet. Huffle didn't mind. He kept watering and waiting, patient as could be. 'Good things take time,' he said to himself. 3

One night, as Huffle was watering, he noticed a tiny green shoot poking out of the soil. 'Oh!' he gasped. 'You're growing!' He leaned closer and saw a faint glow coming from the little sprout. It was soft and warm, like a tiny nightlight. Huffle's heart filled with joy. He knew his patience was starting to pay off. 4

High above, an owl named Olive was flying home. She had soft grey brown feathers, a pale speckled chest, and large golden eyes. A deep blue scarf was wrapped around her neck. She spotted a gentle glow in the garden below. 'How strange and lovely,' she hooted. She swooped down to see what was shining. 5

Olive landed on a low branch and peered at the little hedgehog. 'Did you make this light?' she asked. Huffle nodded shyly. 'My seeds are glowing,' he said. 'I've been waiting for them to grow.' Olive smiled. 'I can see you've taken good care of them.' She wrapped her scarf tighter and settled in to watch the seeds glow. 6

The next night, a tiny bat named Pip fluttered by. Pip had big translucent ears, a small pink nose, and a tiny red berry necklace. He loved shiny things. 'Ooh, what's that glow?' he squeaked, circling above. Huffle explained about the seeds. Pip asked many questions: 'How long did they take? Do they glow every night? Can I help?' Huffle laughed and said, 'You can visit anytime.' 7

A few nights later, a moth named Luna drifted down. Her pale cream and grey wings had moonlike spots, and her feathery antennae twitched. She was drawn to the gentle light. 'What a peaceful garden,' she whispered. She settled softly on a glowing seed and felt its warmth. Huffle felt proud that his patience had created something so beautiful. 8

More night animals came. A family of field mice, a sleepy frog, and a curious raccoon. They all gathered around the glowing seeds. Huffle welcomed each one. 'Would you like to help water them?' he asked. Everyone took turns. The garden became a happy place where friends met and shared stories under the stars. 9

Huffle noticed that the seeds grew faster when everyone helped. The glow became brighter, and the plants grew taller. Tiny flowers began to bloom, each one glowing like a little lantern. The night animals cheered. 'Your patience made this happen,' Olive said. Huffle smiled. 'But your friendship made it even better,' he replied. 10

One night, a strong wind blew through the garden. The glowing plants swayed, and some of the little flowers closed up. Huffle worried. 'What if they stop glowing?' he said. Pip fluttered around, trying to shield them with his wings. Luna spread her shimmering wings to calm the wind. Olive hooted softly, 'Don't worry. We'll protect them together.' 11

The wind died down, and the flowers opened again, glowing even brighter than before. Huffle realized that with friends, he could face any problem. 'Thank you, everyone,' he said. 'My garden is special because of you.' The night animals cheered, and they all danced in the gentle glow until dawn. 12

From that night on, the garden became a gathering place for all the night animals. They came to share stories, to help water the seeds, and to enjoy the peaceful light. Huffle was never lonely again. He learned that care and patience help things grow—and that friendship makes everything better. 13

And so, the hedgehog's star garden shone every night, a little beacon of warmth in the woods. Huffle still wore his moss green apron and tended his glowing seeds with love. The night animals knew they were always welcome. And if you ever wander there, you might see them all together, friends under the stars. 14

Huffle often sat in his garden, watching the glowing seeds and the happy faces of his friends. He thought about how it all started with a tiny packet of seeds and a lot of patience. 'Good things really do take time,' he said to himself. And he knew that the best things in life are shared with friends. 15

So if you ever find a glowing seed, plant it with care. Water it with patience, and wait. Soon, you might have a garden full of light and friends. Just like Huffle the hedgehog. The end.
