Mia loves to gaze at the stars from her window, and one night she dreams of walking on a soft sandy beach. There, a tiny starfish named Pebble calls out from a tide pool, asking for her help. A big storm has damaged the ocean garden, scattering coral, uprooting sea plants, and frightening little fish. Mia eagerly agrees to help, and Pebble invites her to climb on his back as they dive into the dream ocean.

They meet Lumi, a wise sea turtle with a calm and motherly voice, who carries them to the damaged garden. Together, they clean the muck from the coral, replant the sea plants, and rescue a shy little fish named Pip. Along the way, Mia learns that every creature has a role, no matter how small, and that teamwork can solve big problems. The story gently shows how cooperation and kindness can restore a community and bring hope after a crisis.

This heartwarming tale is perfect for young children and early readers. It teaches the value of teamwork, the importance of every individual's contribution, and the power of kindness. A Chapter from the Book

The Girl and the Starfish Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Mia loved to look out her window at night. She counted the stars and made a wish on the brightest one. Her curly hair was tied in two bouncy puffs, and her silver star clips sparkled in the moonlight. She wore her favorite yellow dress and red rubber boots, even in bed. Tonight, the ocean seemed to whisper her name. 1

Mia closed her eyes and dreamed she was walking on a soft sandy beach. The waves rolled in and out like a gentle song. Suddenly, a tiny voice called from a tide pool. "Hello down there! Can you help me?" Mia knelt beside the water, her big round eyes wide with wonder. Something small and orange waved at her from the shallow pool. 2

It was a starfish with five coral-orange arms and a tiny shell on top like a hat. "My name is Pebble," it said with a friendly smile. "I need your help, Mia. A big storm hurt our ocean garden." Mia leaned closer, her freckles scrunching as she smiled. "A garden under the water?" she asked. "I want to help!" 3

Pebble wore a tiny seaweed bracelet on one arm. "Every creature has a role in our garden," Pebble said wisely. "But the storm scattered everything. The coral is covered in muck, the sea plants are uprooted, and little fish are lost." Mia clapped her hands. "Then we will fix it together!" she said. Pebble smiled. "Climb on my back, and hold tight." 4

With a splash, they dove into the dream ocean. Down, down, down they went, past waving kelp and bright pink coral. Mia's yellow dress fluttered like a little flag. "Wow!" she gasped. "The ocean is so big!" Pebble giggled. "It is, but we are small and mighty. Look, here comes Lumi now." A huge shadow glided toward them through the blue water. 5

Lumi the sea turtle swam up slowly, her green and brown shell shining. She wore a strand of tiny pearls and sea-glass beads around her neck. "Welcome, Mia," Lumi said in a calm, motherly voice. "The storm left a mess, but we can make it better." Her gentle amber eyes twinkled. "Hop on, little one. I will carry you both." 6

They swam to the ocean garden, and Mia gasped. The beautiful coral was covered in brown muck and broken bits. Sea plants lay tumbled and sad. "Oh no," Mia whispered. "It looks so messy." Pebble patted her hand with a soft arm. "Do not worry. Big problems get smaller when we work together. Every creature has a role, remember?" 7

First, they cleaned the coral. Mia used her small hands to brush away the muck. Lumi used her long flippers to fan the water clear. Pebble used his soft sucker feet to polish each branch until it glowed again. "Teamwork!" Mia cheered. "This is fun!" The coral turned bright pink and orange, like a rainbow under the sea. 8

Then they replanted the sea plants. Lumi dug soft holes in the sand with her flippers. Mia tucked each little green sprout into place. Pebble tied a seaweed ribbon around the tallest plant. "Slow and steady," Lumi said gently. "Little by little, the garden comes back to life." Mia nodded. "Big things are just small things put together!" 9

Suddenly, a tiny voice squeaked from behind a rock. "Is it safe to come out?" A little fish peeked out, bright blue with yellow fins and a tiny white spot on each side. "I am Pip," the fish whispered shyly. "The storm scared me, and now I cannot find my home." Mia held out her hand gently. "We will help you, Pip!" 10

Pebble smiled. "See? Every creature has a role. Pip can help us replant the tiny plants with his quick fins." Pip darted out, eager to help. He wiggled his yellow tail and sprinkled seeds into the sand. Mia laughed. "Even the smallest fish is a big helper!" The garden began to look green and lively again. 11

Next, they guided the lost little fish home. Pip led the way, swimming in quick circles. Mia waved her arms like a flag, and Lumi slowly pushed the water to gather the fish. Pebble counted each one. "One, two, three, four! All safe!" Mia cheered. "We did it! Everyone has a role, big or small!" 12

The ocean garden sparkled like a jewel. Coral glowed, sea plants swayed, and little fish danced in happy circles. Lumi smiled her warm, wrinkled smile. "You see, Mia? Teamwork can fix big problems, even underwater ones." Pebble gave her a tiny high-five with one arm. "You were brave and kind, and that is the best role of all." 13

Just then, Mia heard her mom calling from far away. "Mia, time to wake up!" The dream began to fade like bubbles popping. "Goodbye, Pebble! Goodbye, Lumi! Goodbye, Pip!" Mia called. "Remember," Pebble sang back, "every creature has a role!" Mia waved until the ocean turned into sunshine, and she opened her big hazel eyes. 14

Mia jumped out of bed in her yellow dress and red boots. She raced outside to find her friends. "You will never believe my dream!" she said, her gap-toothed smile beaming. She told them about Pebble, Lumi, and little Pip. "Every creature has a role," she said.
