Lumi lives in a small house at the edge of a quiet town where the streetlights are few and the stars shine bright. Every night she stands at her window in her yellow raincoat, wishing she had a friend to share the sky with. One night a streak of silver-blue light lands in her backyard, and Lumi meets Pip, a small penguin glowing softly like moonlight and speckled with twinkling stars. Pip carries three crystal pieces in his moon-thread belt pouch; they belong to a constellation called the Little Lantern, which has vanished from the sky, leaving it lopsided. Lumi takes her satchel and agrees to help.
Pip explains that they must climb the Starlight Staircase, a shimmering path that appears only when someone truly wants to help. Along the way the two friends meet grumpy sleepy clouds that block the path, a friendly moon-moth who points them toward the empty hole in the sky, and a puzzle of missing pieces that must be placed just right or they will not shine. Each crystal brings its own small challenge, and Lumi learns that a gentle touch, patience and working as a team can solve what seems too difficult alone.
The story is a gentle tale for young readers about kindness, cooperation and the courage to help someone in need. It shows that friendship can cross worlds and that saying goodbye does not mean losing a friend. Children who love stars, animals and quiet adventures will find Lumi and Pip easy to root for, and the book offers a warm way to talk about teamwork and holding on to the people we care about.

A Chapter from the Book
The Girl and the Star Penguin - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK
Lumi lived in a little house at the edge of a quiet town, where the streetlights were few and the stars shone bright. Every night, she stood at her window in her yellow raincoat, watching the sky. She wished she had a friend to share the stars with. Her curly dark hair was held back by a tiny star clip, and her amber eyes sparkled with curiosity. 1
One night, a streak of silver-blue light whooshed down from the sky and landed in Lumi's backyard. She tiptoed outside in her red boots and gasped. There stood a small penguin, glowing softly like moonlight, speckled with twinkling stars. Its violet eyes blinked at her, and a little star-shaped tuft on its head wiggled. 'Hello,' it said. 'I'm Pip.' 2
Lumi's gap-toothed smile stretched wide. 'You're made of starlight!' she whispered. Pip nodded and opened his tiny moon-thread belt pouch. Inside were three sparkling crystal pieces. 'I dropped them,' he said sadly. 'They belong to a constellation, but now it's missing from the sky. Can you help me put it back?' Lumi grabbed her satchel. 'Of course!' 3
Pip explained that the missing constellation was called the Little Lantern, and without it, the night sky looked lopsided. 'We must climb the Starlight Staircase,' he said. 'It only appears when someone truly wants to help.' Lumi felt a thrill. She followed Pip to the edge of the woods, where a shimmering path of light began to rise into the air. 4
The Starlight Staircase was made of soft, glowing steps that floated upward like a ladder of dreams. Lumi took a deep breath and stepped on. It felt like walking on a cloud. Pip waddled beside her, his flippers leaving faint light trails. 'Don't look down!' he chirped. But Lumi looked up instead, at the sea of stars above, and smiled. 5
At the top of the staircase, they found a sky-garden full of floating star flowers. But the path ahead was blocked by a tangle of dark, sleepy clouds. 'They're grumpy because they're tired,' Pip said. Lumi had an idea. She pulled a shiny ribbon from her satchel and tied it around the biggest cloud. 'There,' she said. 'Now you look like a present.' The cloud giggled and drifted away. 6
Beyond the clouds, they met a friendly moon-moth who fluttered in circles. 'Have you seen a missing constellation?' Lumi asked. The moth pointed with its fuzzy antennae toward a dark hole in the sky. 'The Little Lantern's place is empty,' it said. 'But the pieces must be placed just right, or they won't shine.' Lumi and Pip thanked the moth and hurried on. 7
The hole in the sky was like a puzzle missing its pieces. Pip opened his crystal pouch and handed Lumi the first sparkling piece. 'It needs a gentle touch,' he said. Lumi placed it carefully, and it clicked into place with a soft chime. A tiny star flickered to life. 'One down!' she cheered. Pip did a happy little waddle-dance. 8
The second piece was trickier. It kept slipping from Lumi's fingers. 'Maybe we can do it together,' Pip suggested. He held the piece with his flipper while Lumi guided it. They worked as a team, and the star glowed brighter than before. 'Teamwork makes the dream work!' Lumi laughed. Pip's violet eyes twinkled with joy. 9
The last piece was high up, just out of reach. Lumi stood on her tiptoes, but she wasn't tall enough. 'I can boost you,' Pip said. He puffed up his glowing body and Lumi climbed gently onto his back. She stretched and placed the final piece. The whole constellation burst into light, and the Little Lantern shone again, bright and complete. 10
The sky sparkled with new brilliance. Pip's star-speckled body glowed even brighter. 'You did it!' he cried, hugging Lumi with his little flippers. 'We did it,' she corrected, her freckles crinkling with her smile. Around them, stars twinkled as if applauding. The moon-moth fluttered by, leaving a trail of silver dust. 'Thank you, friends,' it said. 11
Pip's light began to pulse softly. 'I have to go back to the sky now,' he said. 'But I'll never forget you.' Lumi felt a lump in her throat, but she smiled her gap-toothed smile. 'Will I see you again?' she asked. Pip pressed a tiny star into her hand. 'Whenever you look at the Little Lantern, I'll be there. Friendship crosses worlds, Lumi.' 12
They shared one last hug, and Pip floated upward, his light joining the constellation. Lumi watched until he was just a twinkle among the stars. She clutched the tiny star and whispered, 'Goodbye, Pip.' Then she climbed back down the Starlight Staircase, which faded softly behind her. Her heart felt full, not empty. 13
The next night, Lumi stood at her window again. The Little Lantern constellation shone bright and clear. She could almost see Pip's cheerful waddle among the stars. She wore her yellow raincoat and her star clip, and she smiled. Even the smallest friend, she thought, can help with big magic. And she knew it was true. 14
From then on, Lumi looked at the night sky with new eyes. She knew that somewhere up there, Pip was waddling among the stars, leaving light trails and sharing smiles. And whenever she felt lonely, she remembered their adventure and the star he gave her. It glowed warmly in her satchel, a piece of starlight and friendship.
