Lily is a gentle girl who loves to walk in the woods near her home, wearing her soft red hooded cardigan and a yellow dress with tiny white flowers. One bright morning, with a woven lunch basket in hand, she follows a winding forest path and notices something moving between the ferns: a shy fox whose fur glows a strange and beautiful gold. The fox keeps its distance, half hidden behind a fallen branch, and Lily does not chase it or shout. She simply waits, quiet and kind, letting the nervous animal see that she means no harm.
Bit by bit, patience wins the fox's trust. Lily shares bread and berries from her basket, and the fox creeps closer until it takes a berry gently from her open hand. Then it trots ahead and looks back, again and again, as if asking her to follow. It leads her to an old forest path buried under fallen branches and tangled vines, and Lily understands what her new friend wants. Side by side, the girl and the golden fox begin to pull the branches away, and other forest creatures come to watch and then to help.
The story is a quiet tale about gentleness, patience and teamwork, showing young readers that trust is earned slowly and that working together can open a way that seemed closed for a long time. Told in warm, simple language with soft forest imagery, it suits children who are beginning to read longer stories and anyone who enjoys a calm fairy tale about kindness toward animals and the rewards of persistence.

A Chapter from the Book
The Girl and the Golden Fox - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK
Once there was a girl named Lily who loved to walk in the woods near her home. She wore a soft red hooded cardigan and a yellow dress with tiny white flowers. Her dark brown hair was tied in two small braids that bounced as she walked. On this bright morning, she carried a small woven lunch basket and set off down a winding forest path. 1
The forest was full of soft sounds and gentle light. Sunbeams slipped between the tall green trees and made little gold spots on the ground. Lily listened to birds singing and leaves whispering in the breeze. She stepped lightly in her brown lace-up boots, curious about what she might find around each bend. Her hazel-brown eyes were wide and watchful, and a few freckles danced across her nose. 2
Then something moved between the ferns. Lily stopped and held her breath. A fox stood very still in the shadows, watching her. Its fur was a strange, beautiful gold that seemed to glow softly, brighter along its chest and big bushy tail. Its ears were tipped with white, and its amber eyes shone warm and bright. 3
The golden fox did not come closer. It kept its distance, half hidden behind a fallen branch. Its bushy white-tipped tail curled around its paws, and its ears twitched nervously. Lily smiled her gentle smile and stayed very still. She did not run after it or shout. She simply waited, quiet and kind, letting the shy fox see she meant no harm. 4
After a while, the fox took one small step forward, then another. Its golden fur glowed a little brighter in the sunbeams. Lily sat down slowly on a mossy log and opened her woven lunch basket. Inside were soft bread rolls, sweet berries, and a little round cheese. She placed a small piece of bread on the log beside her and looked away, humming softly. 5
The fox crept closer, sniffing the air. Its amber eyes flicked from the bread to Lily and back again. Then, quick as a wink, it snatched the bread and darted back into the ferns. Lily giggled. She did not chase it. She just left another crumb and waited, patient as the tall trees around her, while the sun moved slowly across the sky. 6
This time the fox did not run far. It ate the crumb right there, watching Lily with its warm amber eyes. Bit by bit, it came nearer, until it sat close enough that Lily could see the soft glow along its back. She offered it a berry from her basket, and the fox took it gently from her open hand. 7
The fox gave a tiny, happy bark and flicked its bushy whitetipped tail. Then it trotted a few steps away and looked back at Lily. It did this again and again, as if it wanted her to follow. Lily stood up and brushed the crumbs from her yellow dress. Curious, she followed the glowing golden fox deeper into the woods. 8
Soon they came to a place where the trees grew close and thick. Lily gasped softly. An old forest path was hidden here, completely covered by fallen branches and tangled vines. Leaves and twigs blocked the way, and no one had walked it for a long, long time. The fox sat beside the branches and looked up at Lily, waiting. 9
Lily understood. The fox wanted the path to be clear again. She set down her woven basket and smiled at her new friend. "Let's work together," she said softly. The fox wagged its big tail and stepped forward. Side by side, they began to pull at the branches, one by one, slowly and steadily, while the sunbeams warmed their backs. 10
The branches were heavy, and some were stuck tight. Lily tugged with both hands, and the golden fox pulled with its strong teeth. Twigs scratched and vines tangled, but they did not give up. When Lily grew tired, the fox nuzzled her hand, and she found new strength. They worked as a team, kind and patient, trusting each other more with every passing minute. 11
Little by little, the path began to show. Smooth brown earth appeared under the leaves, and the tangle opened up like a smile. Other forest creatures came to watch: a squirrel, two blackbirds, and a curious rabbit. They saw the girl and the fox working so gently together, and they came to help too, carrying small twigs away. 12
At last the old forest path was clear from end to end. Sunlight poured down and made it glow like a golden ribbon through the trees. The fox stood proudly beside Lily, its golden fur shining bright and warm. Lily clapped her hands, and the fox gave a happy bark that rang through the woods like a little bell. 13
Word spread quickly through the forest. Rabbits hopped along the path, and birds sang from the branches above. Soon, other children and walkers came to see the wonderful path that had been forgotten for so long. They walked in the warm sunshine, and everyone smiled at the girl in the red hooded cardigan and the fox with the glowing golden fur. 14
From that day on, Lily and the fox were the best of friends. They met on the path nearly every day, sharing crumbs and watching the sunbeams dance. Lily learned that patience and kindness can open even the shyest heart. And the golden fox learned that trust, once given, can light up the whole forest with a warm and happy glow.
