In a little town with cobblestone streets lives an eight-year-old girl named Lily, curious about everything around her. One sunny morning she follows a narrow path she has never seen before and finds a small garden behind an old stone wall. There an ancient clock stands frozen, its hands still, and beside it sits a golden cat with shimmering fur, emerald-green eyes, and a long tail that ends in a clock-key tip. To Lily's astonishment, the cat speaks, explaining that it guards the clock and that the clock stopped long ago because its hour hand disappeared.
Lily feels sorry for the sad guardian and promises to help. Together they walk to the shop of the old clockmaker, a kindly man with white hair, round spectacles, and a drawer full of spare parts. He finds a slender golden hour hand shaped like a tiny leaf and lends Lily a small screw and a tiny screwdriver, reminding her that time is a special gift to be valued every day. Lily climbs onto a stone bench, fits the new hand carefully onto the spindle, and the clock begins to tick again. The clockmaker returns with clock oil, and the clock chimes a sweet melody while the golden cat dances with joy.
The story is a gentle tale for young readers about noticing what is broken, offering help, and treating time as something precious. Through Lily's friendship with the talking cat and the clockmaker's quiet wisdom, it shows how small acts of care can restore something that once seemed lost, and how every second is worth paying attention to.

A Chapter from the Book
The Girl and the Golden Cat - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK
In a little town with cobblestone streets, there lived a girl named Lily. She was eight years old, with warm light-brown skin and shoulder-length wavy black hair. Her large darkbrown eyes sparkled with curiosity, and a small mole sat on her left cheek. She wore a mustard-yellow dress with a white collar and a red ribbon in her hair. Every day, Lily explored the town, looking for new wonders. 1
One sunny morning, Lily followed a narrow path she had never seen before. It led to a small garden behind an old stone wall. In the middle stood a tall, ancient clock, its face weathered and its hands frozen. Beside it sat a golden cat with shimmering fur and emerald-green eyes. The cat's long tail ended in a clock-key tip, and a thin blue ribbon with a tiny brass clock charm hung around its neck. 2
The golden cat looked up and blinked slowly. 'Hello,' it said in a soft, purring voice. 'I am the guardian of this ancient clock.' Lily gasped. 'You can talk!' she exclaimed. The cat nodded. 'Only to those who care about time,' it replied. Lily sat down on the grass, and the cat curled up beside her. 'What happened to the clock?' Lily asked. 3
The cat sighed. 'Long ago, this clock kept perfect time for the whole town. But one day, its hour hand disappeared. Without it, the clock cannot tell time.' Lily looked closely at the clock face. The minute hand was there, but the hour hand was missing. 'That's why it's not ticking,' she said. The golden cat's whiskers drooped. 'Yes, and I feel very sad.' 4
Lily felt sorry for the cat. 'Don't worry,' she said gently. 'We can find a new hour hand and repair the clock.' The cat's emerald eyes brightened. 'Do you really think so?' Lily nodded. 'I know someone who can help. The old clockmaker in town has a shop full of clock parts.' The cat jumped up. 'Let's go!' 5
Together, Lily and the golden cat walked to the clockmaker's shop. The shop was small and cozy, filled with ticking clocks of all shapes and sizes. Behind a counter stood the old clockmaker, an elderly man with short fluffy white hair and round spectacles. He wore a dark-green apron over a cream shirt and a leather tool belt with tiny gears. 'Hello, young lady,' he said warmly. 'And who is your golden friend?' 6
Lily explained about the ancient clock and its missing hour hand. The clockmaker listened carefully, stroking his bushy white moustache. 'Ah, that clock is very special,' he said. 'It has been telling time for generations. But an hour hand is not easy to replace.' He rummaged through a drawer. 'Wait! I think I have just the right piece.' He pulled out a slender, golden hand shaped like a tiny leaf. 7
The old clockmaker handed the new hour hand to Lily. 'This will fit perfectly,' he said. 'But you must attach it with care.' He gave her a small screw and a tiny screwdriver. 'Remember,' he added, 'time is a special gift. It should be valued every day.' Lily nodded seriously. 'I will remember,' she promised. The golden cat purred happily. 8
Lily and the golden cat hurried back to the ancient clock. Lily climbed onto a stone bench to reach the clock face. The golden cat watched closely. 'Be gentle,' it whispered. Lily carefully placed the new hour hand on the spindle. She used the tiny screwdriver to tighten the screw. The hand clicked into place. The clock began to tick! 9
Tick-tock, tick-tock! The sound filled the garden. The golden cat's tail wagged, and its clock-key tip sparkled. 'You did it!' it cheered. The emerald eyes shone with joy. Lily stepped back and smiled. 'Now the clock can tell time again.' The cat rubbed against her leg. 'Thank you, Lily. You have given the clock its voice back.' 10
Just then, the old clockmaker arrived, carrying a small bag. 'I thought you might need this,' he said, pulling out a tiny bottle of clock oil. 'A few drops will keep the gears running smoothly.' He oiled the clock and adjusted the hands. The clock chimed a sweet melody. 'It works!' Lily laughed. The golden cat danced around them. 11
The clockmaker smiled at Lily. 'You have a good heart,' he said. 'You noticed the broken clock and helped fix it. That shows you value time.' Lily looked at the ticking clock. 'I never thought about time much before,' she admitted. 'But now I see how important it is.' The golden cat nodded. 'Every second is precious,' it said. 12
From that day on, Lily visited the ancient clock every morning. She loved to hear it tick and chime. The golden cat became her good friend. They would sit together and watch the hands move. 'Time is like a river,' the cat said one day. 'It flows and never stops.' Lily nodded. 'And we should not waste it,' she added. 13
Lily also visited the old clockmaker often. He taught her about different kinds of clocks and how they work. 'Time is a gift,' he would say. 'Use it wisely.' Lily began to value every hour of her day. She finished her chores on time and played with her friends without wasting a moment. The golden cat watched over the clock, always faithful.
