🎧 Listen to the Story · 6:47

Lily is a curious girl in a yellow dress with tiny white flowers, her wavy chestnut hair tied with a ribbon, who sets out one day to explore beyond the old oak tree. The winding path leads her to a meadow where every petal shimmers as if dusted with sugar, and there, behind a bush of sparkling bluebells, she discovers a butterfly with translucent wings like faceted glass, glowing in pale blue and silver. The shy creature trembles at first, but Lily's gentle voice and a slice of apple from her woven satchel win its trust, and she names it Crystal after its glass-like wings.

Crystal leads Lily to a tall silver bloom that pulses with light, the butterfly's home, and Lily promises to keep both Crystal and the meadow safe. They spend a perfect afternoon together, Crystal teaching Lily how to brush the flowers so they chime like soft music. Then the sky darkens and a strong wind tears through the meadow, scattering petals and bending stems. Lily tucks Crystal into her satchel and works alone against the wind, gathering fallen petals and straightening the flowers until the meadow stands tall and peaceful again.

The story follows a simple arc of discovery, trust and keeping a promise, and it carries a clear lesson for young readers: even small, fragile things deserve care and kindness, and a friend's gratitude can be as bright as a dance of sparkling wings. The gentle, descriptive prose and the vivid meadow setting make it well suited to children at the early reading stage and to adults reading aloud, offering a calm, warm tale about courage and responsibility rather than danger or conflict.

A Chapter from the Book

The Girl and the Crystal Butterfly Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Lily skipped along the winding path, her yellow dress with tiny white flowers fluttering in the breeze. Her wavy chestnut hair, tied with a ribbon, bounced as she walked. She carried a small woven satchel and wore brown lace-up boots. Today, she was exploring beyond the old oak tree. Little did she know, a magical adventure awaited her just ahead. 1

Suddenly, the path opened into a meadow that sparkled with thousands of flowers. Each petal shimmered like it was dusted with sugar. Lily gasped, her hazel eyes wide with wonder. She had never seen anything so beautiful. The air smelled sweet, and the grass felt soft under her boots. She stepped in slowly, not wanting to disturb the magic. 2

As Lily tiptoed deeper into the meadow, something caught her eye—a tiny flutter of light. It danced among the flowers, leaving a trail of sparkles. She followed it quietly, her heart beating fast. Then, behind a bush of sparkling bluebells, she saw it: a butterfly with wings like crystal, glowing softly. Its wings were translucent, like faceted glass, shimmering in pale blue and silver. 3

The butterfly rested on a flower, its pearly-white body trembling. Its large dark eyes looked at Lily with shyness and a little fear. Lily knelt down slowly, her gentle smile warming her face. 'Hello,' she whispered. 'I won't hurt you.' The butterfly's delicate antennae curled, and it seemed to listen. Lily felt a special connection, as if the meadow itself was holding its breath. 4

The butterfly's wings sparkled, and tiny sparkles floated around it. Lily reached into her satchel and pulled out a small apple slice. 'Are you hungry?' she asked softly. The butterfly edged closer, its fear melting away. It nibbled the apple, and its glow brightened. 'I'll call you Crystal,' Lily said, 'because your wings look like glass.' Crystal fluttered happily, and Lily giggled. 5

Crystal led Lily to a special flower—a tall, silver bloom that pulsed with light. 'This is your home?' Lily asked. Crystal nodded, its wings shimmering. Lily promised, 'I will keep you safe, and I will protect this meadow.' Crystal's eyes sparkled with trust, and it did a little loop in the air. Lily felt proud and happy to have such a magical friend. 6

They played together among the sparkling flowers. Crystal showed Lily how to make the flowers chime by brushing them gently. Lily laughed as the meadow filled with soft, tinkling music. She chased Crystal through the petals, her red cardigan flapping. The sun shone warm, and everything felt perfect. Lily wished this day would never end. 7

But then, the sky darkened, and a strong wind began to blow. The flowers bent and swayed, their petals scattering. Crystal's wings trembled, and it hid behind Lily. 'Don't worry,' Lily said, holding out her hand. 'I'll protect you.' The wind howled, and the meadow turned messy. Lily knew she had to act fast to keep Crystal and the meadow safe. 8

Lily scooped up Crystal and tucked it gently into her satchel. 'Stay inside,' she said. 'I'll fix everything.' The wind whipped her hair, but she stood strong. She began to gather the fallen petals and straighten the bent stems. It was hard work, but she didn't give up. She remembered her promise to keep the meadow safe. 9

Crystal peeked out of the satchel, watching Lily work. It wanted to help, but its fragile wings couldn't fight the wind. Lily saw its worried eyes and smiled. 'It's okay,' she said. 'I can do this.' She worked faster, her small hands moving quickly. The wind began to calm, as if it sensed her determination. 10

Lily didn't stop until every flower stood tall again. She placed the scattered petals in a neat pile and smoothed the grass. Her dress was dirty, and her hair was a mess, but she didn't care. She had kept her promise. Crystal emerged from the satchel and looked around. The meadow was tidy and peaceful once more. 11

Crystal's eyes shone with gratitude. It flew up and began to dance in the air, its crystal wings flashing with joy. It looped and spun, leaving trails of sparkles. Lily clapped her hands, laughing. 'You're welcome,' she said. The meadow sparkled brighter than ever. Crystal's happy dance was the most beautiful thank-you Lily had ever seen. 12

From that day on, Lily visited the meadow every chance she got. She and Crystal became the best of friends. They played hide-and-seek among the flowers and shared secrets in the warm sun. Lily learned that even small, fragile things like Crystal needed care and kindness. And Crystal learned that true friends always keep their promises. 13

As the sun set, Lily said goodbye to Crystal. 'I'll be back tomorrow,' she promised. Crystal fluttered around her head, its glow soft and warm. Lily walked home with a happy heart. She knew that the meadow and its crystal butterfly would always be there, waiting for her. And she would always be there for them, too. 14

Lily told her family about the magical meadow and her friend Crystal. They listened with wide eyes, but Lily knew it was their special secret. She fell asleep dreaming of sparkling flowers and crystal wings. In her dream, she danced with Crystal under the stars. The meadow was safe, and their friendship was forever.
