The Girl and the Animal Kingdom

The Girl and the Animal Kingdom

Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Lily is a curious girl with warm light-brown skin, wavy chestnut-brown hair in two short braids, and a gap-toothed smile. One sunny morning, wearing her mustard-yellow dress and red canvas shoes, she follows a sparkling path she has never noticed before and steps into a magical kingdom where animals rule. There she meets Bramble, a tall stag with russet-brown fur and branching antlers who leads the forest animals, and Ripple, a glossy blue-grey otter who speaks for the river animals. The two groups stand on opposite banks, angry and unwilling to share: the forest animals need fruit and nuts for winter, while the river animals need clean water and fish.

Small but brave, Lily asks everyone to sit in a circle on the soft grass and to talk and listen instead of shouting. She helps each side hear the other's worries and gently suggests that they share what they have. Slowly, Bramble offers berries and Ripple offers fish, and the animals begin to build a fair plan together, even working side by side to make a sharing place by the water.

The story shows young readers how fairness, cooperation and careful listening can turn conflict into friendship, and it reminds them that a small, kind helper can make a real difference. It is suited to children who enjoy gentle animal tales with a clear lesson about sharing and getting along.

The Girl and the Animal Kingdom - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Lily was a curious girl with warm light-brown skin and wavy chestnut-brown hair in two short braids. One sunny morning, she put on her mustard-yellow dress and red canvas shoes, and clipped her little green leaf hair clips in place. She skipped past the edge of the village, following a path she had never noticed before. The path sparkled with tiny golden stones, and Lily's large hazel eyes grew wide with wonder. 1

The path led Lily into a magical kingdom where animals ruled. Tall trees whispered, and a clear river sang over smooth stones. Birds in bright feathers flew overhead, and a squirrel in a tiny vest waved at her. Lily smiled her gap-toothed smile, and the squirrel chattered a happy greeting. She felt like she had stepped into a dream. 2

Lily met Bramble, the forest leader, a tall stag with deep russet-brown fur and large branching antlers. He wore a woven vine collar with acorn charms and carried a small satchel of berries. His dark, thoughtful eyes watched her kindly, but his proud stance showed worry. 'Welcome, little one,' he said. 'Our kingdom is not peaceful these days.' 3

Bramble stamped his strong leg. 'The river animals want our forest fruit, but we need it for winter!' he said, his voice quick with anger. Lily listened patiently, her braids swinging as she nodded. She could see that Bramble was protective and fairhearted, even if he was upset. 'I want to help,' Lily said gently. 4

They walked to the river, where Ripple the otter waited. Ripple had glossy blue-grey fur and a cream belly, with bright amber eyes and long whiskers. She wore a woven reed bracelet and a necklace of smooth river pebbles. 'The forest animals take our fish and muddy our water!' Ripple said, her whiskered face alert and wary. Lily listened to her worries too. 5

The forest animals and river animals stood on opposite banks, glaring at each other. They did not want to share. 'No more fish!' shouted a beaver. 'No more berries!' called a rabbit. Lily stood between them, small but brave. She raised her hand. 'Please,' she said, 'everyone wants to be heard. Let's talk and listen.' 6

Lily asked everyone to sit in a big circle on the soft grass. 'Tell us what you need,' she said. Bramble spoke first. 'We need fruit and nuts for the cold months,' he said. 'But the river animals take more than their share.' Ripple flicked her tail. 'We need clean water and fish,' she said. 'But the forest animals throw leaves in our river.' 7

The animals grumbled, but Lily kept her gentle listening smile. 'What if we each share what we have?' she asked. 'Bramble, could you share some woodland fruit? Ripple, could you share some river fish?' The animals looked at each other. They had never thought of sharing before. Lily's calm voice made them curious. 8

Bramble thought about his acorn collar and his satchel of berries. 'I could share berries,' he said slowly. Ripple touched her pebble necklace. 'I could share fish,' she said, 'if the water stays clean.' Lily clapped her hands. 'That's a start!' she said. The animals began to talk, not shout. They listened to each other's worries. 9

Together, they made a fair plan. The forest animals would gather extra fruit and leave it by the river. The river animals would catch extra fish and leave it at the forest edge. They would keep the water clean and the paths clear. 'We will share,' said Bramble, 'and be fair.' Ripple nodded. 'And we will cooperate,' she said. 10

The animals worked together to build a sharing place. Beavers carried sticks, rabbits brought berries, and otters stacked smooth stones. Lily helped too, her mustard-yellow dress dusty but her heart light. 'This is fun!' said a little fox. 'We should have done this sooner.' The forest and river animals laughed and chatted like old friends. 11

Soon, the kingdom was peaceful and full of joy. Birds sang, and the river sparkled. Bramble and Ripple shared a meal by the water. 'Thank you, Lily,' they said. 'You showed us that fairness and cooperation create harmony.' Lily's hazel eyes shone. 'You did it together,' she said. 'I just helped you listen.' 12

Lily knew it was time to go home. All the animals gathered to say goodbye. Bramble gave her a tiny acorn charm. Ripple gave her a smooth river pebble. 'Come back anytime,' they said. Lily hugged them both. 'I will,' she promised. She waved as she walked back along the golden path. 13

As Lily walked home, she thought about the animals. They had been angry, but talking and sharing made them happy. She learned that fairness and cooperation create harmony. Her heart felt warm and full. She skipped all the way, her braids bouncing, and smiled her gap-toothed smile. 14

At home, Lily put the acorn and the pebble on her windowsill. She told her family about the magical kingdom where animals ruled. 'They shared and worked together,' she said. 'And now they are peaceful.' Her family smiled. Lily knew she would always remember the lesson she learned. 15

That night, Lily dreamed of the animal kingdom. She saw Bramble and Ripple sharing berries and fish by the sparkling river. She heard laughter and happy songs. And she knew that wherever there is fairness and cooperation, there is harmony. She woke up with a happy heart, ready for new adventures.
