A Chapter from the Book

The Flamingo's Feather Fashion - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

In a sunny meadow near a sparkling pond lived Fifi, a tall flamingo with soft coral-pink feathers. Her long curved neck swayed gently as she gathered fallen feathers and bright leaves. Fifi loved making clothes from nature's treasures. She wore a leafy green sash and a small woven-leaf hat she made herself. Every day, she searched for new colors and shapes to inspire her designs. 1

Fifi's best friend Rosie, a cheerful brown rabbit, hopped over one morning. Rosie's long ears stood up with excitement when she saw Fifi's latest creation: a cape made of red and gold leaves. 'Fifi, that's beautiful!' Rosie cried, her whiskers twitching. 'You should make more!' Fifi smiled, her amber eyes sparkling. 'I only use what nature gives me,' she said softly. 2

Fifi showed Rosie her collection: soft feathers in shades of pink and white, and leaves of every color. 'I never pluck feathers or pick living leaves,' Fifi explained. 'I only use what has fallen.' Rosie's yellow leaf necklace bounced as she nodded. 'That's wonderful!' she said. 'We could have a fashion show to share your designs with everyone!' Fifi's heart fluttered with joy. 3

Rosie raced off to gather their friends. Soon, Toby the turtle and Sunny the squirrel arrived. Toby adjusted his round spectacles and smiled his gentle, slow smile. 'A fashion show sounds lovely,' he said. Sunny's bushy orange tail flicked with excitement. 'I can help collect things!' he chattered. Fifi felt warm and happy. 'Let's do it!' she said. 4

The friends set to work. Rosie hopped through the grass, gathering fallen feathers in her paws. Sunny raced up and down trees, collecting leaves in his acorn-cap hat. Toby moved slowly but steadily, picking up leaves with care. 'Remember,' Toby said wisely, 'we only take fallen leaves and never harm living plants.' Everyone nodded and promised to be kind to nature. 5

Fifi spread all the treasures on a big flat rock. She sorted feathers by color and leaves by shape. 'Rosie, you can have a dress of soft pink feathers,' Fifi said. 'Sunny, a vest of green leaves for you.' Sunny giggled and did a little dance. 'And Toby, a bow tie of brown and gold leaves!' Toby chuckled. 'Perfect for a special occasion.' 6

Fifi worked for days, weaving and tying with care. She made Rosie a feather dress that fluttered like a butterfly. For Sunny, a leaf vest that rustled when he moved. For Toby, a leaf bow tie that matched his spectacles. Each outfit was light and comfortable, made only from fallen treasures. Fifi's long neck curved proudly as she worked. 7

Word spread through the meadow. Other animals wanted to help too. A family of mice gathered tiny feathers. A pair of bluebirds brought colorful leaves. Even the old oak tree seemed to smile down on them. Fifi taught everyone how to weave and tie. 'Creativity is for sharing,' she said. 'And nature gives us so much if we look carefully.' 8

Finally, the outfits were ready. Rosie twirled in her feather dress. 'I feel like a princess!' she squealed. Sunny's leaf vest swished as he practiced walking. Toby's bow tie sat perfectly under his chin. 'I feel quite dashing,' he said with a slow grin. Fifi wore her leafy hat and sash. 'You all look wonderful,' she said, her amber eyes shining. 9

They decided to hold the fashion show on the grassy bank by the pond. Sunny hung a banner made of leaves that read 'Nature's Fashion.' Rosie gathered flowers for the runway. Toby arranged smooth stones as seats for the audience. 'It's perfect,' Fifi said. 'And we didn't harm a single living plant.' The friends cheered and clapped. 10

On the big day, the sun shone bright and warm. Animals gathered from all around. Rosie went first, hopping down the grassy runway in her feather dress. Everyone clapped and cheered. Sunny followed, doing a funny little dance that made everyone laugh. Toby walked slowly, showing off his leaf bow tie with a gentle smile. Fifi watched, her heart full of pride. 11

Then it was Fifi's turn. She stepped onto the runway in a gown of white feathers and green leaves. Her long neck curved gracefully, and her amber eyes sparkled. The animals gasped with delight. 'Beautiful!' they cried. Fifi twirled, and her fanshaped tail feathers spread wide. She felt proud and happy. Her creativity had brought everyone together. 12

After the show, the animals crowded around Fifi. 'Your designs are amazing!' said a little mouse. 'And you taught us to care for nature,' added a bluebird. Fifi smiled warmly. 'We can all be creative and kind to the earth,' she said. 'And sharing ideas with friends makes everything more fun.' Everyone nodded in agreement. 13

Toby stepped forward and adjusted his spectacles. 'Fifi, you've shown us that fashion can be gentle on our home,' he said. 'We should do this again!' Rosie hopped up and down. 'Yes! And we can make new outfits from more fallen treasures!' Sunny did a cartwheel. 'I want a hat next time!' Everyone laughed and cheered. 14

As the sun began to set, the friends gathered their creations. They promised to return the leftover leaves and feathers to the meadow. 'Nature shared with us,' Fifi said. 'We should give back.' They scattered the treasures gently, and the meadow looked as beautiful as before. Fifi felt a warm glow inside. She had shared her creativity and made her friends happy.
