In a cozy burrow beneath a big oak tree lives Ferris, a cream-furred ferret with a dark mask, bright amber eyes and tiny round goggles pushed up on his forehead. His tool belt is always full of gadgets, and his newest invention is his boldest yet: bright red socks with buttons and wires sewn into the toes that can lift him into the air. Before showing them to anyone, Ferris remembers that every invention needs testing, so he asks his best friend Greta, a calm and quick-thinking guinea pig with a yellow scarf and a first-aid backpack, to help him try the socks out in the meadow.
The first flight goes wonderfully until the socks speed up and take on a mind of their own, carrying Ferris through the burrow window, bouncing him off the walls and dragging him high toward the oak tree. Greta keeps her head, climbs the tree and uses her long scarf like a lasso to catch the runaway socks and pull her friend to safety. Back home, the two friends work together to add a slow button, a big red stop button and a safety strap, then test the improved socks carefully inside before flying in happy circles for all the animals to see.
This gentle tale for young readers shows why testing matters in any invention and why a calm, resourceful friend makes every experiment safer and more fun. It suits children who enjoy stories about clever animals, simple machines and teamwork, and it offers a warm lesson about patience, preparation and sharing an adventure with someone you trust.

The Ferret's Flying Socks - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK
In a cozy burrow under a big oak tree lived a ferret named Ferris. Ferris had cream fur, a dark mask around his bright amber eyes, and tiny round goggles pushed up on his forehead. His tool belt was always full of gadgets. Ferris loved to invent things, but his newest idea was the best one yet: socks that could fly! 1
Ferris had worked on the flying socks for weeks. The socks were bright red and had little buttons and wires sewn into the toes. Ferris held them up and grinned. "These socks will zoom through the sky!" he said. But then he stopped and thought. "Before I show everyone, I need to test them. Testing is important for any invention." 2
Ferris knew just who to ask for help. His best friend, Greta, was a guinea pig with golden-brown and white patchy fur and big dark brown eyes. She wore a tiny yellow scarf and carried a blue backpack with a red first-aid cross. Greta was calm and quick-thinking. "Will you help me test the flying socks?" Ferris asked. "Of course!" said Greta. 3
Ferris and Greta went to the meadow. Ferris put on the flying socks and pressed the little button on the toe. The socks began to hum and glow. "Ready?" Ferris asked. Greta nodded. "Ready!" Suddenly, the socks lifted Ferris off the ground! He floated up, up, up, wobbling and laughing. "They work!" he shouted. "They really work!" 4
Greta clapped her paws. "Try flying higher!" she called. Ferris pressed another button, and the socks zoomed faster. He swooped over the daisies and circled a buttercup. But then the socks started to wobble. "Uh-oh!" said Ferris. "I think they're too fast!" He tried to steer, but the socks had a mind of their own. They zipped toward the burrow. 5
Ferris zoomed straight through the open window of the burrow! The flying socks were out of control. They spun around the room, knocking over a stack of books and bouncing off the walls. "Help!" Ferris cried. Greta ran inside as fast as her short legs could carry her. "Hold on!" she shouted. But the socks zoomed right out the window again! 6
The flying socks soared high into the sky, with Ferris still holding on tight. Greta watched from the window. "I have to rescue him!" she said. She grabbed a long scarf from her backpack and ran outside. The socks were heading toward the tall oak tree. Greta had an idea. She climbed up the tree as fast as she could. 7
From a high branch, Greta called out, "Ferris, steer toward me!" Ferris tugged on the socks, and they wobbled toward the tree. Greta threw her long scarf like a lasso. It caught the socks! But the socks kept pulling. Greta held on with all her might. Her yellow scarf flapped in the wind. "I've got you!" she shouted. 8
With a mighty tug, Greta pulled the flying socks toward the branch. Ferris grabbed the branch and held on. The socks stopped buzzing and went quiet. "You saved me!" said Ferris, hugging Greta. "And you saved the socks," said Greta. "They just needed a good test." Ferris looked at the socks. "I learned something today. Inventions need testing, and testing is more fun with a friend." 9
Ferris and Greta climbed down from the tree. Ferris looked at the flying socks. "I think they need a little fixing," he said. "Maybe a slower button and a stop button." Greta nodded. "And maybe a safety strap," she added. "Good idea!" said Ferris. "Let's go back to the burrow and make them better." 10
Back in the burrow, Ferris tinkered with the socks while Greta handed him tools from his belt. He added a big red stop button and a strap that tied around his waist. "Now they'll be safer," said Ferris. Greta smiled. "Let's test them again tomorrow. But this time, we'll test them inside first." 11
The next day, Ferris and Greta tested the socks in the burrow. Ferris pressed the slow button, and the socks lifted him gently. He flew around the room, careful and steady. "This is perfect!" he said. Greta clapped. "Now we can show everyone!" They went outside, and Ferris flew in slow, happy circles while Greta cheered. 12
Soon, all the animals came to see the flying socks. Ferris zoomed over the meadow, waving to his friends. "They work!" he called. "And they're safe!" The animals cheered. Greta stood proudly by the tree. Ferris landed next to her. "I couldn't have done it without you," he said. "You're the best test partner ever." 13
Ferris and Greta sat on a mossy log, watching the sun set. "You know," said Ferris, "I used to think testing was just about making sure things work. But it's also about sharing the adventure." Greta smiled. "And rescuing runaway socks," she said with a giggle. "That too!" laughed Ferris. 14
From that day on, Ferris always tested his inventions with Greta. They tested a flying kite, a bouncing ball, and a bubble machine. Some inventions worked, and some didn't. But they always had fun. Ferris learned that testing is important, and that a good friend makes every test better. 15
So if you ever see a ferret with goggles and a guinea pig with a yellow scarf, testing a pair of flying socks in the meadow, stop and say hello. They might even let you try them on. After all, testing is more fun with a friend!
