The Octopus's Missing Armchair

Deep in the sparkling blue ocean lives Octopus Opal, whose cozy rocky den is lined with shells and soft sea moss. Her favorite possession is an armchair woven from seaweed, the perfect place for reading and sipping kelp tea. One morning she discovers it has vanished, leaving only a square patch of clean sand. Worried and puzzled, Opal turns to her friends for help.

Detective Click, a tiny red crab in a brown detective hat, takes the case with his magnifying glass. He finds faint drag marks in the sand and follows them past swaying sea grass, where Sunny the seahorse joins the search and spots a trail of bubbles rising from a hidden grotto. Because the current there is too strong for a crab and a seahorse, Tilly the sea turtle lends her steady strength, and the three friends push into the dark, plankton-lit cave. There they find the armchair stuck between two rocks.

Pushing alone cannot free it, so Click comes up with a plan that uses Opal's eight strong arms. With Opal pulling and the others pushing, the chair slides loose and is guided safely home. The story shows young readers how curiosity, careful observation and teamwork can solve a problem that seems too big for one small creature, and it celebrates the friends who help without being asked.

A Chapter from the Book

The Octopus's Missing Armchair - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Deep down in the sparkling blue ocean, where sunbeams danced on the sand, lived Octopus Opal. Her cozy home was a rocky den lined with pretty shells and soft sea moss. Opal loved to curl up in her favorite armchair, a big comfy chair made of woven seaweed. It was the perfect spot for reading and sipping kelp tea. With her coral-pink skin and eight curly arms, she looked very happy indeed. 1

One morning, Opal swam to her reading corner and gasped. Her beloved armchair was gone! Only a square patch of clean sand remained. Opal's warm amber eyes grew wide with worry. She wrapped her pale blue knitted scarf tighter around her head. 'Oh dear,' she said. 'Where could my chair be?' She looked under rocks and behind kelp, but it was nowhere. She needed help. 2

Just then, a tiny red crab named Click scuttled by. He wore a brown detective hat and carried a small magnifying glass. Click was clever and curious, and he loved solving mysteries. 'Don't worry, Opal,' he said with a confident smile. 'I'll find your armchair. Detective Click is on the case!' Opal felt a little better. She trusted her clever friend to help. 3

Click began by examining the empty spot where the chair had been. He peered through his magnifying glass and spotted faint drag marks in the sand. 'Aha! Clues!' he declared. The marks led away from Opal's den, past a bed of swaying sea grass. Click followed them carefully, his big green eyes on stalks swiveling left and right. The trail was getting warmer. 4

As Click followed the trail, he met Sunny the seahorse. Sunny was small and golden, with bright orange stripes and a necklace of shell beads. She was zipping through the water, her curled tail swishing. 'Hello, Click!' she chirped. 'What are you looking for?' Click explained about the missing armchair. Sunny's blue eyes sparkled. 'I love mysteries! Can I help?' Click nodded happily. 5

Sunny darted ahead, quick as a flash. 'I'll scout for more clues!' she said. She swam over rocks and around coral, looking for anything unusual. Soon she spotted something strange: a long trail of bubbles rising from a dark opening in the ocean floor. 'Click! Over here!' she called. 'I think I found something!' Click hurried over to see. 6

The opening was the entrance to a hidden grotto, a secret cave tucked beneath the rocks. Water swirled around it, making a soft whooshing sound. 'A strong ocean current flows through here,' Click observed. 'It could have carried the chair inside.' But the current was too strong for a little crab and a tiny seahorse. They would need help. 7

Just then, Tilly the sea turtle glided up. She was calm and steady, with a deep green shell covered in golden swirls. A woven seaweed satchel hung across her back. 'I heard you need some muscle,' she said with a gentle smile. 'I can help push through that current.' Click and Sunny cheered. With Tilly on the team, they felt ready for anything. 8

Tilly led the way into the grotto. The current tugged at them, but Tilly's strong flippers pushed steadily forward. Click held on to her shell, and Sunny swam close behind. Inside, the grotto was dark and sparkly, lit by glowing plankton. And there, nestled in a corner, was Opal's armchair! It was stuck between two rocks, but it was safe. 9

The friends tried to pull the armchair free, but it wouldn't budge. The current pushed against them, and the chair was heavy. 'We need a better plan,' Click said, thinking hard. Sunny suggested they all push together. Tilly agreed. 'On the count of three,' she said. 'One, two, three – push!' They all pushed with all their might, but the chair only wiggled. 10

Click had an idea. 'Opal has eight strong arms!' he exclaimed. 'If we ask her to help, she can pull the chair while we push!' Sunny zipped off to fetch Opal. Meanwhile, Tilly and Click stayed with the chair. When Opal arrived, she wrapped her eight curly arms around the armchair. 'Ready?' said Click. 'One, two, three – heave!' 11

With Opal pulling and the others pushing, the armchair finally slid free! The team cheered. They carefully guided the chair out of the grotto and through the current. Tilly pushed, Sunny guided, and Click called directions. Opal held on tight. Slowly but surely, they brought the armchair back across the ocean floor, past the sea grass, all the way home. 12

Opal placed her armchair in its cozy corner and sighed with happiness. 'Thank you, my friends!' she said, her rosy cheeks glowing. 'You solved the mystery and brought my chair back. I couldn't have done it without your teamwork.' Click tipped his detective hat. 'That's what friends are for,' he said. Sunny did a happy flip, and Tilly smiled her wise, gentle smile. 13

To celebrate, Opal invited everyone for kelp tea and sea biscuits. They gathered around the armchair, which was now the coziest spot in the ocean. Click told the story of the hidden grotto, and Sunny added funny details. Tilly nodded along. Opal wrapped her scarf around her head and beamed. 'Teamwork makes everything better,' she said. 14

From that day on, the friends often visited Opal's den. They took turns sitting in the armchair and sharing stories. Click kept his magnifying glass handy, just in case another mystery popped up. Sunny always scouted ahead, and Tilly was always ready to help. And Opal never lost her armchair again. But if she did, she knew her friends would be there.
