On the edge of a quiet town, where the last garden fades into a wide dark field, lives a small boy named Sam. With his messy dark-brown hair and his soft blue hooded jumper with a star patch on the chest, Sam often sits alone on the garden wall, counting the stars and wishing he had someone to share them with. One cool evening a glowing puppy tumbles out of the sky beside him, its fur made of golden-white starlight and a thin band of twinkling light circling its neck like a collar. From the moment it licks Sam's hand, the two become best friends, and Sam laughs out loud for the first time in days.
Packed with biscuits and a torch in his little canvas satchel, and pulling on his red wellington boots, Sam explores the night with the star puppy. They chase moths and fireflies, jump ditches, creep through tall grass, and race the moon, and Sam learns that the puppy likes to be carried in two hands when it is sleepy. He also learns that friendship needs care, like a small warm light you must keep safe. Then one night the puppy chases a shooting star too far, bumps through the constellations, and sends the stars scattering across the field like spilled marbles, leaving the sky dim and dark. Sorry and drooping, the puppy is comforted by Sam, and together they set out to gather every fallen star before dawn.
The story follows their slow, careful teamwork as they scoop stars from under leaves and off stones, sorting them into shapes and keeping them safe, and it shows young readers how friends help each other and how courage can be found one small step at a time. It is a gentle tale for children and for anyone who reads aloud at bedtime, about loneliness eased by company and about caring for the light we share.

The Boy and the Star Puppy - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK
On the edge of a quiet town, where the last garden faded into a wide dark field, there lived a small boy who often felt alone. His name was Sam, and he had messy dark-brown hair that stuck up in tufts no matter how hard he combed it. He wore a soft blue hooded jumper with a star patch on the chest. Most nights, Sam sat on the garden wall and counted the stars all by himself, wishing he had someone to share them with. 1
One cool evening, as Sam counted past twenty, something small and bright tumbled out of the sky and landed right beside him. It was a puppy, but not like any puppy Sam had ever seen. Its fur was made of glowing golden-white starlight, and tiny sparkles drifted off it like sleepy dust. Its bright skyblue eyes blinked up at him, and a thin band of twinkling light circled its neck like a collar. 2
The little star puppy wagged its softly glowing tail, and a faint trail of light swept across the grass. Then it licked Sam's hand, quick and warm as a sunbeam. "Hello," Sam whispered, and the puppy gave a happy yip that sounded like tiny bells. Sam laughed out loud for the first time in days, and just like that, the two of them were best friends, sitting together under the enormous sky. 3
The star puppy loved to chase. It chased moths, it chased fireflies, and best of all it chased the stars that twinkled above the field. "Careful!" Sam would call, but the puppy only spun in happy circles, its sparkle trail looping like a golden ribbon. Sam packed a little canvas satchel with biscuits and a torch, and together they explored every corner of the night, giggling at shadows and racing the moon across the grass. 4
They had wonderful adventures. They jumped over ditches and crept through tall grass, and the puppy's light made everything glow like a secret. Sam pulled on his red wellington boots each evening, ready for whatever they might find. He learned that the puppy loved to be carried in two hands when it was sleepy. He also learned that friendship needs care, like a small warm light you must keep safe. 5
One night, the star puppy got a little too excited. It chased a shooting star right up into the sky, and it bumped and tumbled through the constellations. Stars scattered everywhere, sliding and bouncing like spilled marbles. Suddenly the sky above them lost its sparkle, and the whole field went dim and dark. "Oh no," Sam whispered. "The stars have scattered everywhere!" 6
The star puppy came back down, looking small and worried, its little tail drooping. "I'm sorry," it seemed to say with its bright blue eyes. Sam knelt down and gave it a gentle hug. "It's all right," he said softly. "We will gather them together, you and me." The puppy's tail gave one hopeful wag, and a tiny spark fell from its fur and landed in the grass. 7
Sam opened his satchel and held it wide. Together they ran across the dark field, scooping up fallen stars. The puppy sniffed them out, and Sam tucked them in carefully. Some stars were hiding under leaves, and some were resting on stones. Whenever Sam got tired, the puppy licked his cheek and wiggled, and Sam found the courage to keep going, one small step at a time. 8
They gathered the lost constellations in little glowing pieces. "This one looks like a spoon," Sam said, holding up a handful of light. "And this one looks like a bear!" The puppy barked and bounced, and together they sorted the stars into piles. It was slow and careful work, and the sky grew darker while the stars waited in Sam's satchel, humming softly like sleepy bees. 9
But there was still so much to do, and Sam's eyes began to close. "I can't do it all," he sighed, sitting down in the grass. The star puppy nuzzled close, warm and glowing. "We can do it together," Sam decided, standing up again. "Friends help each other." So the puppy carried stars in its mouth, and Sam carried stars in his satchel, and they moved through the field as a team. 10
High above, a soft grey light began to creep across the edge of the world. "The dawn is coming!" Sam gasped. "We must hurry!" The scattered stars glowed brighter in his satchel, as if they knew they were almost home. The puppy raced ahead, a tiny comet with a glowing tail. Sam ran after it, his red boots thumping, his heart thumping louder, holding every single star safe and close. 11
Together they placed the stars back into the sky, one by one, like putting toys back on a shelf. The puppy jumped and nudged, and Sam lifted each star as high as he could, and each one clicked into place with a gentle twinkle. The big bear constellation blinked awake, and the spoon constellation sparkled back to life. Slowly, the sky filled with light, and the field glowed silver and gold. 12
The last star was heavy and slippery, and it wobbled in Sam's hands. "I can't reach," he whispered. Then he felt the puppy pressing against him, warm and bright. "Together," Sam said, and he lifted the star as the puppy stood on tiptoe, its glow pushing it upward. The star floated up and settled into place, the very last one. The whole sky was sparkling again, brighter than ever before.
