The Boy and the Silver Seal

The Boy and the Silver Seal

Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

On a quiet, moonlit night, a small boy named Leo walks along the shore in his mustard-yellow raincoat and red rubber boots, watching the waves turn into silver ribbons. A young seal with sleek silver-grey fur and long white whiskers pops out of the water and gives a soft, friendly bark. When the seal swims along the beach and looks back as if to say "Follow me," Leo's curiosity wins out, and he follows the shimmering creature past tall rocks and piles of seaweed until they reach a dark cave hidden in the cliffs.

At the cave's mouth Leo hesitates, nervous about what might be inside. Remembering how gentle the seal has been, he takes a deep breath and steps into the shallow water, trusting his new friend. Inside the cave the two play a joyful game of splash-and-dive, and together they gather a little pile of smooth, glistening stones for Leo to keep. When the moon begins to sink, the seal nudges Leo's hand, and he must say goodbye, watching the silver shimmer disappear beneath the waves.

The story gently explores what courage really means: being brave does not mean never feeling afraid, but choosing to trust even when you are scared. Leo returns home with full pockets and a heart full of memories, and he keeps walking the shore each night, hoping to see his friend again. With its calm seaside setting and warm message about trust and friendship, the book is well suited to young children and to parents or teachers reading aloud at bedtime.

The Boy and the Silver Seal - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

On a quiet night by the sea, a small boy in a mustard-yellow raincoat walked along the shore. His name was Leo, and his red rubber boots made soft squishy sounds on the wet sand. The moon was full and bright, turning the waves into silver ribbons. Leo loved the sea at night, when everything felt calm and a little bit magical. 1

Suddenly, something shiny popped out of the water. It was a young seal with sleek silver-grey fur that glimmered under the moonlight. The seal had big round black eyes and long white whiskers that twitched when it sniffed the air. Leo froze. He had never seen a seal so close before. The seal tilted its head and gave a soft, friendly bark. 2

The silver seal swam along the shore, looking back at Leo as if to say, 'Follow me!' Leo hesitated, but his curiosity was too strong. He walked along the beach, keeping his eyes on the shimmering seal. The seal led him past tall rocks and piles of seaweed. The moon shone down, lighting their path like a silver road. 3

Soon they reached a place where the cliffs rose high above the sea. The silver seal dived under a big rock and disappeared. Leo stopped. His heart beat fast. Was the seal gone? Then he saw a dark opening in the rock, half hidden by the waves. It looked like a cave. Leo felt nervous. He didn't know what was inside. 4

The seal popped its head out of the water right in front of the cave. Its big round eyes looked at Leo kindly. It gave a little bark, as if to say, 'Don't be scared.' Leo took a deep breath. He remembered how gentle the seal had been. Maybe he could trust it. He took one small step forward, then another. 5

Leo stepped into the shallow water. It was cold, but his red rubber boots kept his feet dry. The silver seal waited for him, its whiskers shining in the moonlight. 'Okay,' Leo whispered. 'I'll come.' The seal seemed to smile. It led him into the cave, where the water lapped softly against the rocky walls. 6

Inside the cave, it was dark and quiet. Leo could hear his own breathing. But the silver seal stayed close, its fur glowing faintly like a night-light. Leo felt a little braver. Then the seal splashed its flippers, and water droplets flew everywhere, sparkling like tiny stars. Leo giggled. The cave wasn't so scary after all. 7

Leo rolled up his sleeves and splashed back. The silver seal barked happily and dived under the water, then popped up on the other side. They played a game of splash-and-dive, laughing and barking. The cave echoed with their fun. Leo forgot to be nervous. He was having too much fun with his new friend. 8

After a while, Leo noticed something shiny on the cave floor. He bent down and picked up a smooth stone. It was pale and glistened in the dim light. 'Look!' he said. The silver seal nosed around and found another shiny stone. Soon they had a little pile of sparkling treasures. Leo put them in his pocket, feeling rich. 9

The silver seal nudged Leo's hand gently. It was time to go. Leo didn't want to leave, but he knew the moon was moving across the sky. 'Will you come back?' Leo asked. The seal barked once, as if to say yes. Leo smiled. He trusted the seal. They swam out of the cave together, the water swirling around them. 10

Outside, the moon was lower now. Its light was fading. The silver seal swam in a circle around Leo, then stopped in front of him. It looked at him with its big round eyes. Leo felt a warm feeling in his chest. He knew this was a special friendship. He reached out and gently touched the seal's smooth head. 11

The seal gave a soft bark, then turned and swam toward the open sea. Leo watched until the silver shimmer disappeared beneath the waves. He stood on the shore, his red boots sinking into the wet sand. He touched the shiny stones in his pocket. 'Goodbye, friend,' he whispered. 'See you soon.' 12

Leo walked home under the fading moon. The sky was turning a soft grey. He felt happy and a little sleepy. His pockets were full of shiny stones, and his heart was full of memories. He had been scared at first, but he had chosen to trust the seal. And that trust had brought him a wonderful friend. 13

The next morning, Leo told his family about the silver seal and the hidden cave. They smiled and listened. 'You were brave,' his mother said. Leo nodded. He knew that being brave didn't mean not being scared. It meant trusting even when you were scared. And he couldn't wait to see his friend again. 14

Every night after that, Leo walked along the shore, hoping to see the silver shimmer. Sometimes he saw a flash of silver far out at sea. He waved, and the seal waved back with its flipper. They didn't need words. They had trust, and that was enough. Their friendship was a secret between the boy and the sea. 15

And so, the boy and the silver seal remained friends. They met again and again, under the moonlight, in their secret cave. And Leo learned that when you choose to trust, you might just find a friend for life. The end.
