A Chapter from the Book
The Boy and the Moon Dolphin - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK
Leo sat by his window, watching the big silver moon rise over the ocean. His blue pyjamas had tiny white stars, just like the real ones twinkling above. He pressed his nose to the glass and whispered, "I wish I could swim in that moonlight." The waves outside sparkled and shimmered, as if they were calling to him. 1
Suddenly, a soft glow danced on the water. Leo leaned closer and saw a dolphin leaping through the moonbeams! Her silverblue skin shone like a lantern, and a crescent moon mark glowed on her forehead. She flipped her tail, sending tiny stars into the air, and looked right at Leo with sparkling turquoise eyes. "Come on!" she seemed to say. 2
Leo tiptoed outside, his bare feet cool on the sand. The dolphin waited in the shallows, her belly pale and glowing. "I'm Luma," she chirped. "Climb on!" Leo held tight to her smooth back, and they glided into the ocean. The water felt warm and tingly, and every ripple sparkled with light. "Where are we going?" Leo asked, his heart thumping with excitement. 3
Luma swam faster, and the sea began to glow. Tiny blue lights flickered under the waves like underwater stars. "These are starfish lights," Luma said. "They only shine at night." Leo gasped as a school of glowing fish darted past, leaving trails of silver. "It's like a whole new world!" he cried. Luma laughed, a happy, chirpy sound. 4
Next, Luma took Leo to a secret cave. The walls were covered in shimmering shells that reflected the moonlight. "Touch one," Luma said. Leo gently tapped a shell, and it played a soft, tinkling tune. Soon, all the shells were singing together. Leo clapped his hands. "This is the best discovery ever!" he shouted, and his voice echoed around the cave. 5
They swam out of the cave and into a wide, open sea. Luma leaped high, and Leo held on tight. For a moment, they were flying among the stars! The sky was full of bright, twinkling lights, and the ocean below was a mirror of the sky. "I can almost touch the stars!" Leo laughed. Luma nodded. "The stars are our friends," she said. 6
Luma showed Leo a secret garden of seaweed that glowed in the dark. "Watch this," she said, and she blew bubbles that floated up like tiny moons. Leo blew bubbles too, and they popped into little sparkles. "Your turn!" Luma said. Leo tried to blow a big bubble, but it popped on his nose. They both giggled. 7
Then Luma grew quiet. "There's something I want to show you," she said. She swam to a place where the water was still and dark. "Look down," she whispered. Leo peered into the deep. Far below, he saw a circle of glowing stones, like a secret message. "What is it?" he asked. "A map of the stars," Luma said. "It shows the way to hidden treasures." 8
Leo felt a little scared. The dark water seemed very deep. But Luma nudged him gently. "Don't worry," she said. "We'll go together." She dove down, and Leo held on. The glowing stones grew brighter, and soon they were in a cave full of sparkling crystals. "Wow!" Leo breathed. "It's beautiful!" 9
Inside the crystal cave, Leo saw his own reflection in a thousand sparkling pieces. "Look, Luma!" he said. "I can see myself!" Luma smiled. "The crystals show you who you are," she said. "Someone curious and brave." Leo felt proud. Then he noticed a small, shiny stone on the cave floor. "Can I keep it?" he asked. Luma nodded. "A reminder of your adventure." 10
As they swam back up, the sky began to lighten. "The night is almost over," Luma said softly. "But before you go, I have one more surprise." She led Leo to a quiet lagoon where the water was full of floating lights. "These are moon-jellies," she said. "They only come out when the moon is full." Leo watched them glow and pulse. "They're like dancing lamps!" 11
Leo yawned. "I think it's time for me to go home," he said. Luma nodded. "But remember," she said, "the ocean is always here for you. And so am I." She swam close to the shore, and Leo climbed off. "Thank you, Luma," he said. "This was the best night ever." Luma nuzzled his hand. "Goodnight, Leo. Dream of the sea." 12
Leo tiptoed back to his room, his pyjamas still damp with seawater. He climbed into bed and held the shiny stone. Through the window, he saw Luma leap one last time, a silver arc against the fading stars. Leo smiled and closed his eyes. He knew that whenever he used his imagination, he could go on another adventure. 13
In the morning, Leo's mom asked, "Did you sleep well?" Leo nodded. "I had a wonderful dream," he said. "I swam with a dolphin named Luma." His mom smiled. "That sounds magical." Leo looked at the stone on his bedside table. "It was," he said. "And I think it was real." 14
That night, Leo sat by his window again. He looked at the moon and smiled. He knew that Luma was out there, swimming through the moonlight. And he knew that whenever he imagined, he could join her. "See you soon, Luma," he whispered. The waves sparkled in reply.
