The Boy and the Crystal Rabbit - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK
One cold winter morning, the boy woke to a world wrapped in white. Snowflakes danced outside his window, and the trees sparkled like sugar. He pulled on his red pom-pom hat, his matching red scarf, and his padded blue coat. With dark mittens on his hands and snow boots on his feet, he was ready for adventure. The winter world was waiting, full of magic and surprises. 1
He stepped outside into the crisp, cold air. His breath made little clouds, and the snow crunched under his boots. He loved winter more than any other season. Everything was quiet and still, as if the world was holding its breath. He ran through the snow, leaving a trail of footprints behind him. The winter day was full of promise and wonder. 2
Near the old oak tree at the edge of the meadow, something sparkled in the snow. The boy stopped and stared. It was a rabbit, but not a real one. It was made of clear ice crystals that glittered in the sunlight. Its long ears were frosted, and its body shimmered with tiny snowflake patterns inside. He had never seen anything so beautiful. 3
The boy knelt down slowly, not wanting to scare the frozen creature. Its pale blue eyes seemed to glow. He reached out a mitten and gently touched its ear. Suddenly, the crystal rabbit twitched! Its ears stood up, and it hopped onto its icy paws. The boy gasped. "You're alive!" he whispered. The rabbit wiggled its nose and blinked its glowing eyes. 4
The crystal rabbit hopped in a circle, leaving tiny frost prints in the snow. It looked at the boy and tilted its head, as if asking him to follow. The boy laughed and stood up. "Where are we going?" he asked. The rabbit didn't answer, but it bounced toward the frozen pond. The boy ran after it, his heart light with excitement. This was going to be a magical day. 5
At the edge of the pond, the ice was smooth and shiny. The crystal rabbit hopped onto it and slid across, leaving a trail of sparkles. The boy stepped onto the ice carefully. He pushed off with his boots and glided after the rabbit. They slid together, spinning and twirling. The rabbit's frosty aura left a shimmering path behind them. It was like dancing on a mirror. 6
They played on the ice for hours. The boy chased the rabbit, and the rabbit chased him back. They slid on their bellies and spun in circles. The boy's cheeks were rosy, and his laugh echoed across the pond. The crystal rabbit's eyes glowed brighter with joy. It seemed to giggle with a sound like tiny bells. They were having the best time together. 7
Then the boy had an idea. He found a smooth, flat piece of bark and tied a string to it. "Let's make a sled!" he said. He pulled the bark sled across the snow, and the crystal rabbit hopped on. The boy ran, pulling the sled fast. The rabbit held on, its ears flapping in the wind. They zoomed down a small hill, laughing all the way. The winter magic was everywhere. 8
After the sled ride, they built a snow rabbit together. The boy rolled big snowballs for the body and head. The crystal rabbit helped by patting the snow with its icy paws. They added twigs for ears and pebbles for eyes. When they finished, the snow rabbit looked almost like the crystal one. "Now you have a friend!" the boy said. The crystal rabbit hopped around it happily. 9
The boy shared his snack with the rabbit. He broke a cookie in half and offered it. The crystal rabbit sniffed it and pretended to nibble. It didn't need food, but it liked being included. The boy ate his half and smiled. "You're a good friend," he said. The rabbit nuzzled his mitten with its cold nose. It felt like a tiny snowflake kiss. 10
But then the boy noticed something. The sun was climbing higher in the sky, and its rays felt warm on his face. The crystal rabbit's ears were starting to drip. Tiny drops of water fell from its paws. "Oh no!" the boy cried. He could see the rabbit was melting. The rabbit looked at him with its glowing eyes, and they seemed to say, "It's okay." 11
The boy didn't want to lose his friend. He tried to shade the rabbit with his body, but the sun was too strong. He scooped up the rabbit and ran toward the old oak tree. The rabbit felt lighter in his arms. Its crystal body was turning to slush. "Please don't go," the boy whispered. The rabbit nuzzled his cheek one last time. It was still smiling. 12
The boy sat under the tree with the rabbit in his lap. The sun was warm now, and the snow was melting all around. The rabbit's glow faded, and its body shrank. Soon, all that was left was a little puddle of water and a single ice crystal. The boy picked up the crystal and held it tight. A tear rolled down his cheek. He felt sad and empty. 13
But as he held the crystal, he remembered all the fun they had. The sliding, the sledding, the laughter. He realized that the friendship was real, even if it was short. The crystal rabbit had given him a magical day. He looked at the crystal and smiled. "Thank you," he said softly. The crystal sparkled in the sunlight, as if it understood.
