A Chapter from the Book
The Boy and the Cloud Elephant - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK
On a bright morning, a boy named Leo stood on a green hill and looked up at the sky. He had warm light-brown skin, short curly dark-brown hair, and big round hazel eyes full of wonder. His sky-blue T-shirt with a small yellow star flapped in the breeze, and his red sneakers were ready for adventure. Today, the sky seemed to be hiding a secret. 1
High above, something white and fluffy moved. It was not a bird. It was not a plane. It was an elephant made of clouds! The cloud elephant had big floppy ears, a long curling trunk, and a thin rainbow ribbon tied around one ear. It floated gently, puffing tiny clouds from its trunk. Leo waved with both arms. The elephant waved back with its trunk. 2
The cloud elephant floated down until it hovered right beside the hill. "Hello, little friend," it said in a soft, rumbly voice. "I am Ellie, the cloud elephant. Would you like to see the sky?" Leo nodded so fast his curly hair bounced. He climbed onto Ellie's soft back, and they floated up, up, up into the bright blue world. 3
From high in the sky, Leo saw something wonderful and terrible. A rainbow bridge stretched across the clouds, but it was broken in the middle. Its colors were faded, and a big gap made it impossible to cross. "Oh no!" said Leo. "The rainbow bridge is broken! How will anyone get across?" Ellie sighed. "It has been broken for days." 4
Leo looked at the broken bridge and thought hard. His hazel eyes sparkled. "We can fix it!" he said. "We just need soft clouds and bright colors. Let's gather them together!" Ellie's small dark eyes lit up. "What a clever idea!" she trumpeted. "I can lift heavy clouds with my trunk. And you can find the colors." They shook hands, or rather, hand and trunk. 5
First, they needed soft clouds to fill the gap. Ellie curled her long trunk around big puffy clouds and lifted them easily. Leo sat on her back and pointed to the fluffiest ones. "That one looks like a pillow!" he laughed. "And that one looks like cotton candy!" Ellie puffed little clouds from her trunk, and they floated into place. The bridge began to grow. 6
Next, they needed bright colors. Leo remembered that colors hide in the sky at sunrise and sunset. They flew to a sunset cloud and scooped up red and orange. They visited a morning cloud for yellow and green. Ellie's trunk gently gathered blue and purple from the evening sky. Leo put each color in his canvas satchel, and it glowed like a treasure chest. 7
Back at the bridge, Leo and Ellie worked together. Leo painted the colors onto the cloud pieces, and Ellie placed them carefully. "A little more red here!" Leo called. "A splash of blue there!" Ellie's trunk curled and twisted, fitting each piece like a puzzle. They turned the work into a game, singing a silly song about colors and clouds. The bridge began to shine. 8
But one piece was too high for Leo to reach. He stretched and stretched, but he was too small. "I can help," said Ellie. She lifted Leo up with her trunk, and he placed the last purple piece right at the top. "We did it!" they cheered. The rainbow bridge sparkled, but it still needed one more thing: a little bit of magic. 9
Leo looked at the bridge and had an idea. "The rainbow needs a smile to shine!" He told Ellie to make her biggest, happiest face. Ellie flapped her ears and curled her trunk into a grin. Leo laughed his gap-toothed laugh, and the bridge seemed to laugh too. The colors grew brighter and brighter, and the gap closed up completely. 10
Suddenly, the rainbow bridge glowed with all the colors of the sky. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple—they danced and shimmered. The bridge was fixed! Leo and Ellie stood back and admired their work. "We make a great team," said Leo. "Yes, we do," said Ellie, and she wrapped her trunk around Leo in a soft, cloudy hug. 11
Animals from all around came to cross the rainbow bridge. Birds flew over, and squirrels scampered across. Even a family of rabbits hopped from one side to the other. "Thank you, Leo and Ellie!" they called. Leo's heart felt warm and full. He looked at Ellie, and they both smiled. Friendship had made the big job easy and fun. 12
As the sun began to set, Leo knew it was time to go home. "Will you come back?" asked Ellie. "Every day!" promised Leo. He gave Ellie a big hug and climbed down to the green hill. His red sneakers touched the grass, and he waved up at the sky. Ellie waved her trunk and puffed a little heart-shaped cloud. 13
From that day on, Leo visited Ellie every chance he got. They flew through the sky, fixed little cloud problems, and imagined new adventures. Leo learned that imagination helps you discover wonderful things. And with a friend by your side, every big job becomes a game. The rainbow bridge still shines, a colorful reminder of their teamwork. 14
And if you look up at the sky on a sunny day, you might see a boy in a star shirt and a cloud elephant with a rainbow ribbon. They are always ready for a new adventure, always ready to help. Because when imagination and friendship join together, anything is possible. The sky is full of surprises, just waiting to be found.
