The Boy and the Cloud Dolphin

The Boy and the Cloud Dolphin

Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Leo is a curious boy with messy dark-brown hair, a bright yellow t-shirt and a small canvas backpack always ready for adventure. One afternoon, sitting on the grassy hill behind his house, he notices something moving among the clouds: a pale-blue dolphin with a pearl-white belly, gliding through the sky as if it were the sea. The dolphin greets him, offers him a ride, and Leo climbs onto its cool, smooth back for a journey above the hills.

Together they visit the floating ocean islands, where star-shaped leaves shelter glowing butterflies, a waterfall flows upward into the sky, and flowers hum soft melodies. On a shell-shaped island Leo makes a wish at a shimmering wishing pool, and on another he plays hide-and-seek with small, fuzzy cloud creatures. As the sun sets, the dolphin teaches Leo that the islands will always be there and that he can return whenever he imagines them, leaving him with a tiny glowing petal as proof that the journey was real.

This gentle tale is written for young children and for parents or teachers reading aloud. It celebrates curiosity, imagination and close attention to the small wonders around us, and it shows how an ordinary afternoon can become an adventure worth remembering.

The Boy and the Cloud Dolphin - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK

Leo sat on the grassy hill behind his house, watching the sky. He had messy dark-brown hair, a bright yellow t-shirt, and a small canvas backpack always ready for adventure. The clouds looked puffy and soft, like cotton candy. Suddenly, something moved up there. Not a bird, not a plane—something smooth and shiny, gliding through the white fluff. 1

Leo squinted his big round hazel eyes. A dolphin! A real dolphin swimming through the clouds, its pale-blue body glowing softly. It had a pearl-white belly and tiny sparkles on its back. The dolphin curved into a gentle smile and flicked its tail, leaving a shimmering rainbow trail. Leo's heart raced with wonder. "Hello down there!" the dolphin called. "Want to come for a ride?" 2

Leo couldn't believe his ears. "How can you swim in the sky?" he asked. The dolphin laughed, a sound like tiny bells. "The sky is my ocean," it said. "And the clouds are my waves. Climb on my back and see for yourself!" Leo took a deep breath, held on tight to his backpack, and stepped onto the dolphin's smooth, cool back. It felt like standing on a friendly, floating boat. 3

Up they soared, higher and higher, until the hill looked like a tiny green dot. Leo held on as the wind whooshed past his freckled nose. The dolphin swam through a fluffy cloud, and it felt like a cool, misty splash. "Wow!" Leo shouted. "This is better than any roller coaster!" The dolphin chuckled. "The fun has only just begun," it said. "Look ahead!" 4

Leo looked and gasped. Floating in the sky were islands—real islands, with palm trees and waterfalls, drifting like giant green ships. "Those are the floating ocean islands," the dolphin explained. "They travel wherever the wind takes them." Leo's eyes went wide. "Can we visit them?" he asked. "Of course!" said the dolphin. "Hold on!" And with a flick of its tail, they dove toward the nearest island. 5

The first island was covered in trees with leaves shaped like stars. Tiny glowing butterflies danced around them. Leo jumped off the dolphin and landed softly on the mossy ground. He opened his canvas backpack and pulled out a little notebook. "I'm going to draw everything!" he said. The dolphin smiled. "Look over there," it said, pointing its fin. "A waterfall that flows upward!" Water sparkled as it rose into the sky like a fountain. 6

Leo laughed with delight. He wrote in his notebook: "Waterfall goes up, not down!" Then he noticed something even stranger —the flowers were singing. Soft, sweet melodies floated from their petals. "The flowers are humming!" Leo whispered. The dolphin nodded. "These islands are full of surprises," it said. "You just have to look closely." Leo picked a flower, and it hummed a happy tune. 7

They flew to the next island, which was shaped like a giant shell. In the middle was a pool of water that shimmered with all the colors of the rainbow. "This is the wishing pool," said the dolphin. "If you make a wish, it might come true." Leo thought hard. He wished for more adventures. The water rippled, and a tiny star popped out and danced in the air before fading away. 8

On the third island, they found a group of cloud creatures— small, fuzzy, and round—playing hide-and-seek. One little cloud creature was hiding behind a tree, but its fluffy bottom was sticking out. Leo giggled. "I see you!" he said. The creature peeked out and smiled. "You found me!" it squeaked. They all played together until the sun began to set, painting the sky in orange and pink. 9

As the sky turned golden, the dolphin said, "It's time to go home, Leo. Your family will be wondering where you are." Leo felt a little sad. "I don't want to leave," he said. "But I'll never forget this." The dolphin nuzzled him gently. "The floating islands will always be here," it said. "And so will I. Whenever you imagine, you can find us again." 10

Leo climbed onto the dolphin's back for the journey home. As they flew, the dolphin taught him a special trick. "Close your eyes and picture the clouds," it said. "You can visit us anytime, just by imagining." Leo closed his eyes and saw the floating islands in his mind. When he opened them, he was back on his grassy hill, but something felt different. 11

At first, Leo thought it had all been a dream. But then he felt something in his hand—a tiny, glowing flower petal from the singing flowers. And when he looked up at the sky, he saw a faint rainbow trail fading among the clouds. "It was real," he whispered. He ran home to tell his mom everything. She smiled and said, "Imagination is a wonderful thing." 12

That night, Leo lay in bed and looked out his window. The stars twinkled, and he imagined the dolphin swimming among them. He made a wish for another adventure. Then he closed his eyes and smiled. The world was full of surprises, and he couldn't wait to discover more. He knew that every adventure begins with a little wonder. 13

The next morning, Leo put on his yellow t-shirt and blue shorts, grabbed his canvas backpack, and ran to the hill. He looked up and waited. At first, there was nothing. But then a familiar rainbow trail appeared behind a cloud, and a gentle voice called, "Ready for another ride?" Leo grinned. "Always!" he shouted, and away they went.
