The Beaver's Secret Telescope - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK
Benny the beaver lived in a cozy lodge by the river. He had warm brown fur, a flat tail, and big curious eyes that never missed a thing. Every morning, he packed his green explorer satchel with a rolled map, a stubby pencil, and a snack. 'Today I'll find something new!' he chirped. His best friend Lila the otter often joined him, her red scarf fluttering in the breeze. 1
One sunny afternoon, Benny was paddling near the riverbank when something glinted under a bush. He pushed aside the leaves and found a long, shiny tube with glass at both ends. 'What's this?' he wondered, turning it over in his paws. It looked like a telescope, but it was unlike any he had seen before. He decided to take it home and ask Grandpa Paddle. 2
Grandpa Paddle lived in a snug burrow nearby, wearing his round glasses and a faded blue vest. Benny showed him the telescope. 'Ah,' said Grandpa, his kind eyes twinkling. 'This is a special telescope. It shows things far away—and maybe even things below the water.' Benny's curiosity bubbled. 'Can I try it?' he asked. 'Of course,' said Grandpa. 'But remember, curiosity is the key to learning.' 3
Benny hurried back to the river and peered through the telescope. At first, he saw only ripples. Then, wow! The water seemed to clear, and he saw a world of strange fish with rainbow scales and plants that glowed like lanterns. 'Lila! Come quick!' he called. Lila zipped over, her amber eyes wide. 'What do you see?' she asked. Benny described the underwater wonders. 4
Lila took a turn looking through the telescope. 'I see a fish that looks like a swimming flower!' she giggled. 'And there's a glowing plant that waves like a flag!' Benny's mind raced. 'Where do these creatures live?' he wondered. 'Maybe there's a hidden place under the river.' Lila nodded. 'Let's find out!' They decided to explore the riverbed the next day. 5
That night, Benny could hardly sleep. He kept thinking about the glowing plants and strange fish. He drew pictures in his notebook and added notes. 'I need to see more,' he whispered. The next morning, he packed his satchel with extra supplies: a rope, a waterproof bag, and his map. Lila arrived with her red scarf tied tight. 'Ready for an adventure?' she asked. 'Ready!' said Benny. 6
They started at the river's edge, where the water was clear and shallow. Benny used the telescope to scan the bottom. 'There's a dark opening over there!' he exclaimed. They swam closer. It was a cave entrance, half-hidden by rocks. 'Do we dare go in?' Lila asked. Benny felt a flutter of nervousness, but his curiosity was stronger. 'We'll be careful,' he said. 7
They swam into the cavern. It was dark and cool, but soon their eyes adjusted. Glowing plants lit the walls with soft blue and green light. 'It's beautiful!' Lila whispered. Benny pulled out his map and pencil. 'I'll draw what we see,' he said. They saw tunnels leading in different directions. Benny sketched carefully, marking each turn and room. 'This is a secret cavern!' he said. 8
As they explored, they found a large room with a crystal-clear pool. Fish swam lazily in the glow. Benny noticed a narrow passage on the far side. 'Let's see where that goes,' he said. They followed it and found a chamber filled with sparkling stones. 'Wow!' said Lila. Benny added it to his map. 'We should come back with more supplies,' he said. 'But first, let's finish mapping this part.' 9
They spent the whole morning exploring. Benny drew tunnels, rooms, and even a tiny waterfall. Lila helped by counting the fish and naming the glowing plants. 'This one looks like a star,' she said. 'Then we'll call it starweed,' Benny replied, writing it down. They were so busy that they didn't notice the time. 'We should head back,' Benny finally said. 'Grandpa will worry.' 10
When they returned, Grandpa Paddle was waiting at the riverbank. 'You've been gone a while,' he said, but his eyes were kind. Benny showed him the map. 'We found a hidden cavern!' he exclaimed. 'And look at all the things we saw!' Grandpa studied the map. 'This is wonderful work, Benny,' he said. 'Your curiosity led you to a great discovery. But remember, exploring is safest with a plan.' 11
Benny nodded. 'We were careful,' he said. 'And we didn't go too far.' Grandpa smiled. 'I'm proud of you both. You asked questions and found answers. That's how we learn.' Lila's whiskers twitched happily. 'Can we show the map to everyone?' she asked. 'Of course,' said Grandpa. 'Sharing what you learn makes it even more special.' 12
The next day, Benny and Lila gathered their friends at the riverbank. Benny unrolled the map and told the story of the secret telescope and the hidden cavern. Everyone gasped at the glowing plants and strange fish. 'Can we go too?' asked a little beaver. Benny looked at Grandpa, who nodded. 'We'll plan a group trip,' Benny said. 'But first, we need to make more maps.' 13
From then on, Benny kept the telescope in his satchel, always ready for a new adventure. He and Lila explored more of the cavern, adding to their map each time. They discovered a tunnel that led to a sparkling waterfall and a room full of tiny glowing shrimp. Each discovery made Benny more curious. He learned that every question leads to another, and that's the best part.
