A Chapter from the Book
The Dolphin's Secret School - Author : Ebru Mina TOMURCUK
In the big blue ocean, where the water sparkles like diamonds, lived a young dolphin named Splash. She had smooth bluegrey skin, a lighter belly, and a friendly curved smile. Splash loved to explore the coral reefs and learn new things. She carried a small woven seaweed satchel filled with shells and a tiny chalk stone for drawing maps. Every day, she discovered something new and wished she could share it with others. 1
One morning, Splash had a wonderful idea. 'I will start a school!' she said. 'I can teach my friends how to navigate the ocean.' So she found a cozy spot near a big coral reef and used her chalk stone to draw a welcome sign on a flat rock. Word spread quickly through the ocean: Splash was starting a school for young sea creatures. Everyone was excited to learn. 2
On the first day of school, three students arrived. Pip, a tiny golden-orange seahorse with a red coral bead necklace, was the first. Tock, a young sea turtle with a patterned shell and a kelp ribbon on his flipper, came next. Finally, Finn, a small grey shark wearing a shell lens on a string, swam in with a big cheerful grin. Splash greeted them all warmly. 'Welcome to our ocean school!' she said. 3
Splash began her lesson. 'Today we will learn how to navigate using the sun, the currents, and the stars,' she said, drawing a map on a smooth rock. Pip's big round amber eyes widened with excitement. 'What's that wiggly line?' she asked. 'That's a current,' Splash explained. Tock nodded slowly, while Finn fiddled with his shell lens. Everyone listened carefully, eager to learn the secrets of the sea. 4
Splash led her students through the kelp forest. 'Use the sun to find your way,' she said. 'Keep it on your left, and you'll head north.' The little group swam in a line, practicing. Pip kept asking questions, Tock swam steadily, and Finn tried to use his shell lens as a compass. Suddenly, Pip stopped. 'Look!' she squeaked, pointing her long snout toward a gap in the rocks. 'A secret path!' 5
Splash peered at the narrow gap. 'I've never seen that before,' she said. 'Let's follow it!' The path was dark and twisty, but Finn squeezed through first, his small grey body slipping easily between the rocks. 'It's safe!' he called back. Tock helped Pip through, and Splash followed. They swam deeper and deeper, not knowing where the path would lead. 6
As they swam, the water grew warmer and the colors brighter. 'I see something!' Pip shouted. Ahead, a huge coral arch rose from the ocean floor, glowing pink, purple, and orange. It was the most beautiful thing any of them had ever seen. 'Wow!' whispered Tock. 'This is a secret place,' said Splash softly. 'And we found it together.' 7
The coral arch was covered in sparkling shells and tiny fish that darted in and out. Splash used her chalk stone to draw the arch on her map. 'We must remember this place,' she said. Pip swam around excitedly, counting the different colors. Finn used his shell lens to look closer at the tiny fish. 'They're not scared of us at all!' he laughed. Tock smiled, keeping watch. 8
But then, Finn tried to swim through a small hole in the arch and got stuck! His tall triangular fin caught on a piece of coral. 'Help!' he called. Tock quickly swam over. 'Don't worry, Finn,' he said calmly. 'I'll help you.' Tock used his strong flippers to gently push the coral aside, and Finn wiggled free. 'Thanks, Tock!' Finn said. 'You're a hero!' 9
Splash gathered her students. 'That was a close call,' she said. 'But it shows how important it is to work together.' Pip nodded. 'And to share what we know,' she added. 'If Finn hadn't squeezed through the gap, we wouldn't have found this place.' Splash smiled. 'You're right, Pip. Knowledge grows when we share it. Let's make a map for everyone to use.' 10
The friends spent the rest of the day exploring the coral arch and drawing a detailed map. They marked the safe paths, the narrow gaps, and the best places to see the tiny fish. 'We can bring our families here,' said Tock. 'And other schools too,' added Finn. Splash felt proud. Her first lesson had become a grand adventure, and her students were learning more than she ever imagined. 11
As the sun began to set, Splash called the students together. 'Today, you all learned how to navigate,' she said. 'But you also taught me something important. Sharing what we know makes everyone smarter and the ocean friendlier.' The little group cheered. 'Let's come back tomorrow!' said Pip. 'And the next day!' laughed Finn. Tock nodded, his gentle eyes shining. 12
From that day on, Splash's ocean school met every morning. They explored new places, drew maps, and shared stories. The coral arch became their special spot. And every time they learned something new, they made sure to tell others. The ocean became a friendlier place, full of knowledge and laughter. 13
Splash realized that teaching was the best adventure of all. She had started a school to share what she knew, but she had learned so much more from her students. With her seaweed satchel full of maps and shells, she felt ready for anything. The ocean was full of secrets, and together, they would discover them all.
